I have never noticed this before until now:

Gee Ultra, don't put too much creativity or origanality into the cover art! Save some for Snake's Revenge!

Dear god... You REALLY should have just ripped off another movie character, instead of this crap. You could have just airbrushed over a picture of Escape From New York, or something.....

Yep. It's true. I think I saw EGM point that out a few years ago. I miss the days we could just steal likenesses for 8-bit video games. Those were the days...

Rambo, Terminator, Commando, and Alien all precede Contra.

Contra came out before Predator, but the NES port of Contra did not.

And thank god that Predator was made before the NES version, or we'd have had this shit on our NES games:

You guys! I just realized that the Star Wars SNES game totally ripped off the movie's cover, look at this shit

Man, I friggin love how Konami used real people so much on their arcade cabinet art and flyers. Soooo cheesy.

This is my favorite:

Konami's MSX game Gradius: Gofer no Yabou Episode 2 (Gofer's Ambition) had a boxart which was inspired by Star Trek III: The search for Spock.

Here's Episode 2:

and here's Star Trek III.

Image

Basically, they changed the face, removed the characters, and put the Vic Viper in front of it.

Fun facts: Episode 2 was a gaiden (side-story) to Gradius II.
And it was released in Europe as Nemesis 3: The eve of Desruction if anyone wants to play.
