I ended up voting McCain. Can't help but think this one won't even be close though.

Still, I can't wait until this election is over so everyone on campus can cool the fuck out and stop talking foreign policy and economics without knowing dick about either. I've never experienced an election based more on people's perceptions about abstractions. I'm surprisingly okay with Obama (probably) taking this election, but I'll be glad to not have to listen to dumbasses harp on about "change" and "hope" without mentioning the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, the micro- and macro- effects of the bailout, sub-Saharan Africa policy, HOW widespread tax cuts can possibly work without losing quality of basic services, etc.

I'm glad people are voting, but it makes me sad that so many are voting because of something catchy they read on a goddam button and not because they spent five minutes learning a politician's voting record.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

Simple... who's your horse? The feisty veteran stallion who's seen his share of battles or the highly-touted thoroughbred ready to break out?

Or did you throw away your money on a 500-1 shot?

If I were an American that would be allowed to vote, I'd vote Obama because of his position on LGBT rights.

Nice quote in your sig, Kubo. Who is that from?

As a Canadian minor, I have zero say in this election, yet I still followed it and I have been depressed the entire time. I miss Mike Gravel.
Also the Canadian elections blew.

Thanks! I actually read half of it on a Fark thread and threw together the other half myself one day when I was feeling bored. My part starts with "Die as an honest person."

Dude, why do you make so much threads about voting? I mean, okay, you're excited, we understand. It's unnerving, though.

To ask your question: if he would have a real chance of winning, Barr. Obama's my second choice.

I really miss Mike Gravel. He was like the crazy grandfather at a family dinner who ends up throwing over the table and stabbing your uncle with a fork. Also he had good policies.
I would probably vote Obama, but I dont really like either of the main candidates.
Bob Barr deserves an honorable mention for being the biggest trap possible. I mean the guy created the legislature to keep same sex marriage illegal. Now he is all "Oh yeah I have the exact opposite of every view I ever held." And the libertarian party just kind of let him do his thing.

I actually wanted to make the first one I posted a poll as well... but I forgot like a dumbass, so I just created a new thread for just the poll.

My apologies to the SL faithful for the clutter.

Who do I think will win?
Obama. I think people associate him with change (away from George Bush)

Who do I want to win?
Obama. I don't actually like him, but I really fear the alternatives.

Holy shit, you're right. I guess I shouldn't form opinions on people just on the google-first-page info-mining method. The more I read about this man, the more batshit I think he is.

Still, it would be nice to see. It'd be like the Smiler in Transmetropolitan (it's been a year since I read that book and I STILL AM TALKING ABOUT IT). Just how long would it take before the people would overthrow him?

My vote is for Obama.

My prediction is for a McCain win.

My hope is that, should Obama win, the Republicans in congress get really tough on things like card check, or the fairness doctrine.

In case I'm right and McCain wins, my prayers will be that John McCain remains alive and in perfect health for the next four years.

You already know (put my vote in this morning). I'd be more secure about McCain being president if Ms. Crazy Bitch wasn't the next in line.

As a matter of fact, fuck that. I'm not in favor of riding McCain's road to nowhere. I'm not having a page and a half argument with you guys. it's all I'm saying.

I voted for John McCain.

He's not the president we deserve, but he's the president we need.

It greatly disturbs me that several prominent Republicans, most notably Colin Powell, have endorsed Barack. I guess they feel that McCain won't serve conservative interests or something. Guess what assholes? McCain might not serve all of your interests, but guess how many of them Barack will serve? It starts with "F" and ends with an "O".... FUCKING ZERO.

What disturbs me the most is that once again I feel like I had to choose between two bad choices.

I hope that one day I can vote for someone I actually want to see in office.

Like I said before, I am afraid of McCain... more to the point, I am afraid that he is old and that the VP would ever have the chance to be in control of this country.

We need celebrity candidates. Next election, the Republicans can run either Will Smith, Sly Stallone, or Bruce Willis and the Democrats can run George Clooney, and we'll have a grand old time.

Clooney?

No.

Pick someone else from Ocean's 11.

I will be voting for Barr. I know he has no shot, but I live in California which is definitely going to Obama anyway, so I might as well go for the guy I agree with most. However, if Obama wins, I will have to say that I will feel a little more pride in being American. I will be proud that we as a people showed the world that we don't approve of Bush's arrogant attitude towards the rest of the world, while simultaneously showing our progress in race relations by electing a black man, even if he is only half black.

On the flipside, I will be proud if we elect McCain because we as a people will have showed the world that we don't let foreign countries dictate our domestic policy. Remember when Obama toured Europe back in spring and he was greeted like he was Jesus Fucking Christ, culminating with a Hitler-like rally in Germany? Sorry Europe, you don't get to pick my president.

I'd love to agree with this if it weren't for the fact that pretty much the entire world hates us thanks to Bush and that if we have a president on their side, it'll keep them from nuking us.

Or Kelsey Grammer for the Republicans. I would fucking kill for a Smith/Grammer ticket. Can you imagine how good the speeches would be?

The only countries with nuclear capabilities that would ever consider nuking us are North Korea, Russia, and Pakistan and electing Barack isn't going to do anything to curb that.
