So I've been saving up some money and I plan on getting an R4 in a couple of weeks. I guess some of you guys on here have one so I wanted to ask about it a little to see what I'm really buying. I've read some great reviews of it and it seems to be exactly what I want, but I just have a few questions.
1. It can play NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. ROMs right? Every review I've seen says that it can play DS ROMs perfectly fine, but they never mention older systems.
2. Is there a specific site I should order it from? The official R4 website was kind of sketchy last time I visited it, but this site seems cool Link
3. How much memory do you recommend in a Micro SD card? I'm thinking of going with a 1 gig, how many ROMs can that hold?

1. I'm not totally sure, but it should be able to, as long as there are the proper emulators for it. It mentions the ability to run homebrew applications, so I'd have to imagine that there are emulators for this out there already, if not, then being worked on. You'll just have to find those.

2. I usually prefer to order things from its site of origin, unless there's some major bargain on another site or something.

3. I have a GP2X with a 2 GB card, and it holds all of my NES,SNES, GB, and Genesis ROMs and emulators and still has a ton of room. According to my backup, my emulators, ROMs, and all their associated files take up only about 530 MB. I have about 350 Genesis ROMs, 150 NES ROMs, and 110 SNES ROMs on here. I hadn't realized that I haven't put any GB ROMs on here yet, but those aren't very big either.

I'm too lazy to write everything down, so here's a thread at my second forum, and there are posts where I explain some of the emulators you can get. Read the whole topic... I normally update it with new findings.

Get ApprenticeMinusDS over DSMasterPlus, though.

There are also DS emulators for the Atari 2600, 5200, and ST, Commodore 64 and all those other computers, ColecoVision, MSX, etc. Just look around.

You know, I'd get a Supercard or something instead of a R4 - it does the same shit, except it also plays GBA games. It has built-in emulators, too, if that's what you want. Still, you need to patch DS/GBA games with the included program (it takes less than a minute), whereas on the R4 you just drag-and-drop the games onto a card.

Oh, and just because I'm in a great mood today, I'll also send you my #1 resource for DS games. Enjoy.

All of these things look so sketchy to me. I'm not sure if I would trust any of them with my information and credit card.

Thanks for the link, it has lots of good info. ApprenticeMinusDS and DSMasterPlus, are those emulators for DS games? I'm not too interested in playing those right now, but I guess I could look into it.

Like I said, I'm really only into playing NES, SNES, and Genesis games on the DS, but thanks for the link, looks pretty sweet.

I don't understand the joke.

I was being serious. I wouldn't trust them with my info or credit card. They seem genuinely sketchy.

I keep bookmarking one on Amazon, but they keep taking them off. And as GP said, the manufacturer site seems skeevy.

That link was actually legit, not "fishy". That's where I got my M3 Real from.

But if you're still gonna follow the link Knyte posted to get it, PLEASE know that anything other than the R4 (the R4ds HC/Advance/III/whatever) are fakes and clones.
