I'm really not enjoying either South Park nor Family Guy. It seems the vast bulk of South Park episodes are beginning with an ignorant or intolerant act by Cartman lead to some big apocalyptic deal. Both shows should just give it a rest. Even Stone and Parker have admitted that they only keep the show up for the money, and that they flat-out hate making it.

Seth McFarlane and Fairly Oddparents creator Butch Hartman both wrote for JB. Seth also had a failed pilot he did for Cartoon Network.
And Matt and Trey don't hate doing SP. Trey had wanted to move on to other projects, but his movies haven't done great financially and the deal Comedy Central offered him and Matt was too lucrative to pass up.

I remember reading an interview in Rolling Stone where they said they were tired of doing it. I guess that's different from "hating" but still.
And that Seth McFarlane pilot for Cartoon Network in the 90's (Larry and Steve I think) was awesome. One of my favorite jokes of all time is that "euthanasia" bit.

I did like the pilot. But if that succeeded, we may have never got Family Guy.

Larry and Steve was actually an offshoot of a college project he did called "Life of Larry" which was almost exactly like Family Guy (even using jokes that were to be used in later episodes of Family Guy).
I actually saw an episode of American Dad last night (The one where Stan accidentally thought the apocalypse happened), and laughed at it more than any recent episode of Family Guy. The bit with them leaving Roger behind and seeing him just looking confused through the window had me almost yelling with laughter.

While I admit the cut-out jokes are funny, there is no shortage of lame ones, so it's easy to understand why they would cut down on them.
Seriously, what the bloody fucking hell were they thinking when the made the antisemitic Cyrano scene?

No kidding. The Jesus stuff has progressed from hilarious to downright stupid nowadays, as well.
I'm all for some good blaspheming humor, but at least make it funny.

I think I've stated about a thousand times that I dislike Family Guy. However, still sometimes amused at Southpark, I think it started going down hill when the animation started getting actually pretty decent, and they started regularly incorporating the epic soundtrack. I can't say whether it is a coincidence or not, but that's just my observation. If I happen upon it, I will watch it, but I no longer anticipate watching it like i used to.

i dont mind family guy but they can be hit or miss w/their jokes and the unnecessary repetition that happens in every episode.
also the real long drawn out jokes can get annoying. and the long song numbers too.
american dad isnt too bad either. it has decent storytelling and doesnt have to resort to non sequitur cut away scenes to tell the jokes

I'm getting tired of the "Put Roger in a shitty costume and everyone thinks he's a human" angle. Actually I'm just getting sick of Roger period.

There's another criticism, the use of repetition to get laughs taken to an absurd extreme. Every ep doesn't need a "Peter gets hit in the shin and spends ten minutes agonizing over the pain" joke. This time, it looked like the entire first act was solely Peter saying that. Not funny. Annoying. |
I still think they ripped off that concept from Sideshow Bob's imfamous "stepping on the rakes" scene.

I still think South Park is one of the smartest, most entertaining shows on all of TV. Some of the episodes are a bit weird, but I've always laughed out loud (and hard) several times during any episode.
I used to think Family Guy was funny until, ironically, South Park pointed out that the laughs come from random cut scenes that have nothing to do with the plot. Since that episode of South Park, I just don't find Family Guy good at all.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Anyone want to try their hand at editing Family Guy into an abridged version, like the Yu-Gi-Oh stuff, buy instead of also dubbing just run the episode sans cutaways. I wonder how much time that'd shave.
