Yeah there's the "Fucking State of..." stuff, but I'm sure everyone's home state/(province/territory for the Canadians) has some really great stuff that comes from it as well, people, food, inventions, etc. so post about that in here.

My home state of Georgia gave mankind:

Food and Drink
Coca-Cola, Waffle House, and Chik-fil-a

People
* Martin Luther King Jr. (most schools here are open on Columbus Day because they close on MLK's birthday)
* Jimmy Carter
* Jeff Foxworthy
* Julia Roberts

Wrestlers
Raven, Christ Benoit, Lita, William Regal, Fit Finlay, Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Hulk Hogan, Abdullah the Butcher, Demolition Ax, Bill Buchanan, Jimmy Rave.

Music
R.E.M., The B-52s, Outkast, Mastodon, Collective Soul, Counting Crows, Ray Charles and James Brown.

Television
* Ted Turner's television conglomerate (TBS, Cartoon Network, CNN, Headline News, etc.),
* The Weather Channel

Sports
* Bobby Jones (only golfer to win the Grand Slam)
* John Heisman (As in the trophy)
* Evander Holyfield
* Deion Sanders
* Jackie Robinson (1st African-American baseball player in the modern league).

Also, apparently the distribution center of Nintendo's American Division is located in Atlanta.

Chicago has the best food in the country. Bernard Berrian, who signed with the Vikings during the offseason, was asked a couple of weeks back what he missed the most about Chicago, and is answer was simply "the food".

For music, we've given you: The Smashing Pumpkins, Local H, Veruca Salt, Stabbing Westward, & Gravity Kills

In sports, We are one of, if not the, biggest sports city in the country. Name a sport and we have a team in it, possibly two. Only New York can compete with us. Michael Jordan's Bulls in the 90s, The Bears in 85 & all of their NFC championships before the merger in the 60s, the history of the Sox & Cubs, the former glory of the Blackhawks...

Many great movies were filmed here or set here: The Blues Brothers, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Groundhog Day, The Fugitive...

* Thomas Haden Church

* Tommy Lee Jones
* Matt Stone, of South Park
* Luke and Owen Wilson
*Bill Engvall, Bill Hicks, Steve Martin, Ron White

Music
Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson, Johnny Winter, Leadbelly, Blind Lemon Jefferson, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, MDC, DRI, Butthole Surfers, Rigor Mortis, Pantera, At the Drive-In, The Mars Volta, Devourment, DJ Screw and the Screwed Up Click, Watchtower, Meatloaf

Wrestlers:
Stone Cold Steve Austin

Television
* King of the Hill.
* Tex Avery, beloved animator.

Sports
Two words: Dallas Cowboys. And UT, A&M, and Texas Tech, Lance Armstrong, Jack Johnson (the badass boxer, not the singer)

And our state instrument is the guitar, baby! I'd also like to note that the totally awesome movie/book No Country for Old Men is set in Texas. And Holes.

Sure, some equivalent, but here it's thought of as a Polish food (maybe because of the high Polish population in Chicago)....Time to check wikipedia....

Edit:

I guess we're wrong though, the article clearly states that it's Slavic. I should have known that, considering that I'm half-Serbian.

An Addendum to the Rolling Rock, it is not made in Latrobe Pa any longer. Anheuser Busch purchased Rolling Rock in May of 2006. It is not made in a plant somewhere in New Jersey.

First of all, Ross I'm going to trump Nickelback right now with...

George W. Bush.

But this is supposed to be a good list.

I'll be representing CT since I grew up here and finally moved back (though I was in MA for 5 years)

I will begin with what is already known
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Yes. CT is the state where people make the most money per household. No, it isn't New Jersey.

Along those lines, Greenwich is famous for the majority of those rich people.

What else does CT provide you ask?

ESPN
Subway
Coleco
Polaroid camera
The first American submarine
The Nuclear Submarine (Yes... it is fucking different than a regular one... by a lot)
Cotton Gin
The Colt .45 Revolver
The Can Opener
The Portable Typewriter
The Frisbee
Vulcanized Rubber
Foxwoods
Fall leaves (If you haven't seen them in CT, then you don't understand, P.S. don't worry, you only make Sunday driving less pleasant for the rest of the people who live here when you visit. Fucking New Yorkers.)
We have several castles. Yeah... real ones that you can go in. Fuck'n A right
Yale
The best Pizza. Don't even bother arguing. Every single person who comes to visit leaves saying the same thing. "I used to think I knew what the best pizza was, but now I know it comes from CT and what I thought was good is actually vomit."
Insurance ??? I'm not sure if it is good or bad though.
Mark Twain (wasn't born here, but he lived here and built a famous house here)
Mike Tyson
Chris Drury
Brian Leech
Henkel - They make lots of glue that you use. If you drink beer you like them because they make it so you can carry it out of the store. If you have babies, you like them because they make diapers stick together. My best friend works for them... Awe fuck it... its a glue company.

Tyop this is for you - Noah Webster. He made you the Grammar Nazi that you are.
Katharine Hepburn
Phineas T. Barnum (One of the Circus founders)

I'm not done, but my wife says I am. Bed time.

The place I call home, Watertown NY, seems to have a fairly dubious legacy.

Area 51 was reportedly dubbed "Watertown Strip" back in the 50's. Allen Dulles, then CIA director, was a native of Watertown.

Serial killer Arthur Shawcross resided here for much of his life. He then went to Viet Nam, where he claims he cannabalized two young girls. After his return, he murdered two children here, copped a plea, and moved to Monroe County where he killed 11 more people, many of them prostitutes.

We made national news a few years ago when one Rev. Timothy LaBouf fired a sunday school teacher from his church. Grounds for her dismissal? She was a woman.

Richard Grieco was born here.

But it hasn't been all bad!

Joe and Albert Bouchard, of Blue Oyster Cult fame, came from here, as did one-time Motley Crue manager Eric Greif.

Viggo Mortensen was born here.

We have the longest operating covered shopping mall in the country.

We also gave the world the founder of Woolworths, which is now Foot Locker Inc, as well as the Davis Sewing Machine Company, now HUFFY Inc.

New York City has way too many shit to list, but some of we brought you are:

Awesome tasting pizza and bagels
Hip Hop/Rap (and a whole shitload of artists), and Punk music (We broght you the Ramones.)
Mike Tyson (GP, you're so wrong)
Al Pacino
Viacom
George Carlin
ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC
Anderson Cooper
Stallone
Kodak cameras

In the way of sports: Giants and Yankees, that's all you should care about.

I could go on for days, but I'm way too lazy.

Don't forget that this was actually a pretty ritzy place back 100 years ago. The Globe Mall, Paddock Arcade, and the Square in general are remnants from this city's glory days, not to mention all the nice Victorian houses in the semi-wealthy part of town. Now all we have in Fort Drum trash for the most part. =-=shakes his head=-=

I still miss the Woolworth building before Stream occupied it. It was the first place I saw escalators, and it was the main reason I liked going there.

Amen to that, sir.

It's sad to even look at that place now.
