NEW ONE:
Three men get a room in a hotel (which we can only assume leads to a night of sweaty, gay man-love). They are charged $30, and each man pays $10.
Later, the clerk realizes that he made a mistake and that the room only cost $25. He gives an orderly $5 and tells him to refund the money to the men.
The orderly, being a giant douche, decides that, since $5 cannot be divided evenly among three men, he is going to pocket $2 and refund each man one dollar each.
Thus, with the refund, each man payed $9 total for the room.
BUT WAIT!
9(dollars per man) X 3(men) = $27 (dollars total)
Adding the two dollars that the orderly pocketed, that brings the total amount of money to $29.
What the fuck happened to the last dollar?

Total = $30
Rebate = -$5
Total = $25
Guy Keeps = $2
Guy Gives Back = $3
Original Total - Guy Gives Back = $27
Divided per person = $27 / 3 = $9

You have to substract the two dollars, not add them. It's a simple sign mistake hidden by obfuscating language.

First of all, I would like to comment on how the three guys actually paid $27 when the room was $25, they got ripped off.
Anyway, they have paid the hotel $27 (3 times $9). The hotel receives $25 and $2 is kept by the douche. $27 = $27, there is no missing dollar. You just made a trick question.

I first heard that stupid thing about the hotel when I was like 8, and even then I could see right through it. You didn't break math. Anyone who is confused by that is too stupid to realize that you're doing math incorrectly.

I discovered this on a math test today. I don't know if I'm correct, but apparently, 1/4 equals 2.
See, 1/4 = (2^2)^-1 because whenever you're exponenting by a negative value, you make a reciprocal (n^-x = x/n)
Whenever you're exponenting an exponent, you add the two exponents together, like so: 2^(2+[-1]). 2+(-1) = 2 - 1 = 1. 2^1 = 2.

Well actually, the exponents add when there base numbers are multiplied. For example,
(a^b) * (a^c) = a^(b + c)
In your case you are "exponenting an exponent" which means you multiply the exponents. For example,
(a^b)^c = a^bc
So therefore,
1/4 = (2^2)^-1
= (2^(2 * -1))
= 2^-2
= 1/4
I hope that clears that up.

I'm just kind of curious. Did you find this on the intenet, did somebody tell it to you, or did you came up with it on your own?

My cousin told it to me. I don't know where he heard it.
