I'm looking for a good NES/SNES RPG to play in-between study sessions or at work. My only criteria: it can't be also released on the Virtual Console, as a remake for the DS/GBA or something. Also, no Sword of Mana, because I'm already playing that game.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.
While you're at it, go check out my band, Her Majesty's Heroines.

Well I suppose that others will have to make a decision about which of us to believe.
The one of us who is full of shit, or the one of us with non stop bloody shit.

NES Crystalis - Fun, fun, fun. Feels like an early generation SNES game.
SNES Shadowrun - Fucking rules, best cyberpunk experience on that generation of consoles. Er..probably the only one too.
SNES Final Fantasy 2 - Just play it.
SNES Ogre Battle - Overrated, boring, repetitive, slow.
GENESIS Phantasy Star Series - Rules all.
And for Nostalgia reasons PLEASE play the NES version of "Final Fantasy 1" before you play the GBA version. Just 'cause.
That is all.

I have to agree with Optimist, disagree with GP, and seriously disagree with josh on Ogre Battle. It's only slow if you are.

Hey fuck off man, it's extremely sub par compared with the games that I listed, I didn't insult you or anyone else. Extremely unnecessary to call me slow when I love the turn based strategy style of the game, I just didn't like it, I beat it, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Plus I wasn't flat out hating it, which is obvious because I played it all the way through, but shit man, it was even voted 180th out of 200 best SNES games (but that's Nintendo Power so you know how that goes)
Basically what I should have said from the get go is that there are 20 better RPG's to play on the SNES than Ogre Battle.

Whoa josh buddy, I'm just defending my second favorite SNES game of all time. GP, SoE is only lame if you are.
And on the off chance that you are actually parapalegic, I apologize.

Haha, good deal Val. Argument over.
On a second note, I only got 5 hours into SoE and couldn't play anymore. At least Ogre Battle kept my attention enough to finish it. I was always curious about the "Limited Edition" Ogre Battle for PS1. How is it different?
In no way was I trying to be a dick, just throwing my opinion out there. I've seen a lot more assholes on the forum than I.

I had a great time with Secret of Evermore. Actually, it's been a few years since I played it. I'll probably bust that out tomorrow.

Why not Seiken Densetsu III? Its the sequel to Secret of Mana, really good, and you can play as a werewolf monk. Whats not to like?
I've also heard Live a Live is really good, but I suck at the computer and could never get the translation to work right.

Lucky for you, I am not a paraplegic or you would feel really bad.
Wait... lucky for me I'm not a paraplegic... but that isn't the point.
I am willing to accept being lame if it means that this game is also considered lame.
