Consult with the fans of movie series when they are doing remakes,sequels or prequels, especially with comic based movies or stuff like Star Wars etc.

I mean seriously, the fans are the ones who put the money in the pockets of these studio guys, yet they refuse to take in any input from the fan community most of the time.

Im not saying let the fans write the script, but seriously could they ever like have a contest where like 10 fans can vote on aspects that they think work well in the movie and what not?

I mean dont you think George Lucas should have done something similiar to this for Eps 1-3?

Seems like a good idea at first, but what if Bay's Transformers had the craptastic transformation sequences, ridiculous non nonsensical plot lines, and god awful voice acting / script that the cartoon show did? Confused

George Lucus has the problem that personal insecurities and the resources to make a movie out of pocket means that he doesn't get imput from anyone.

And plenty of movies don't really care. Fans come to see a licese anyway. So producers go after the moviegoing equivalent of moderates.

I just watched Episodes 1-3 again his week. Everytime I see them I like them a little more.

Well, when they took in fan's input, we got "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch." in X-3. But I do agree, especially in the case of Bay, it's like he didn't even know what Transformers was when he agreed to do it (and he's pretty much said exactly that.) On the other hand, you can't let fans completely dictate how a thing is going to be or it will end up ridiculously stupid because every fan wants something different and thinks their idea is the best. In the vein of the Juggernaut line, how many people think "It's over 9000!" will find it's way into the Dragonball movie?

I tend to agree, but I also get more angry every time I see Jar Jar, the Pod Race scene, and Hayden Christensen.

So it is a win-lose situation.

All in all though I think that movie producers/writers/directors shouldn't have to ask opinion from others, but when they make a movie into a larger thing, they really need to consider their overall audience.

For example, Star Wars is a story that has been told through movies, video games, tv, cartoons, toys, and more. It might be a good idea to try and figure out what the real popular opinion is of each area and what the masses are looking for, but not necessarily give them any form of direct input.

Episode 1 blows full on. Two has one good part, being the fight between Obi-Wan and Jango Fett. Three is worthwhile, though not really up to snuff compared to 1-2 of the original.

Good things of note in III.
1. Before Obi-Wan leaves to fight with Anakin, he tells Padme "I'm so sorry". Considering how bad Lucas can be with dialogue, this line has so many layers in its delivery.
2. The emperor/yoda fight has him literally tearing apart the senate.
3. In fact, the third movie belongs to the emperor. The actor plays him spot on, indulging in the satisfying victory that he has been working toward at least since the first movie. Only his "POWER, un-limited POOOOWEEERRR!!!" is a bit narmy.
4. Lucas can't really handle romance, but I think Anakin has a lot right with him. He's a teenager, desperate for a father figure but compelled to rebel. So he latches onto the emperor, who tells him everything he wants to hear. Its okay to love this woman, you have vast potential that the close minded jedi are jealous of, and that anger you feel is a path to power. "If your not with me, then your my enemy." is the exact kind of thing he would say, not some compelling philisophocal rebuttal, but the tripe that hes been taking in.

A good way to do this is to try and appeal to your ready-made fanbase rather than trying to appeal more casual/non-fans in hopes for more mainstream success. I've argued it time and time again, and some will disagree, but this is where Bay screwed up with Transformers. I'll quote myself here, "Transformers was made for acquaintances rather than friends of the series."

A lot of other people making movies fall for the same trap. If you target people who are already fans and try to please them, you at least know what you have and can hope to pick up some casuals or people who aren't as familier with the content. If you piss away the fans that are already there in hopes of getting more out of other mainstream movie fans, nothing is guaranteed and you have a hit/miss situation. This is why I think so many of these movies flop.

They have a pretty good track record of movies made there:

Kindergarten Cop, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, The Goonies, Short Circuit, Come See the Paradise, and Free Willy. (Okay, so TMNT III was pretty bad, but come on the rest range from decent to awesome.)

I think all movies should be made by DarkMaze Studios. In fact, I think DarkMaze should try to acquire the rights to the Kick-Ass movie even though they're not for sale.

The Resident Evil movies are fine if you don't count them as part of the Resident Evil umbrella. Just like Gaiden on the GBC and the Gun Survivor/Outbreak games.
