And, if it counts, Mega Man Legends. Holy shit, that game was amazing.

Then in that case, Mega Man Legends 2 was spectacular.

No Problem SS.
Beyond the Beyond was a pretty good game too, it was made by the people that made Golden Sun. You can definitely tell to.

I'd probably have to say either the Parasite Eve games or Persona.

The only problem with Parasite eve is it can be beaten in about 6 hours.

Playstation really seemed to focus on making you suffer through loading time. It was almost as though loading time was an intended part of all the games just to make you hate gaming.

With that said, the only RPG I suffered with on that system was FFVII. It was my friends system and a few of us would trade off playing while others were playing ping pong. In a way it felt like playing the game was the same as riding bitch in an 88' civic... it feels like forever no matter where you are going.

I can't say with my recent play through that FF VII was bad on loading. The only thing was the non skippable summons. That would be my only gripe. You want to see horrendous loading times? Play Chrono Trigger on the PSX. That was being forced to ride in a suped up Geo Metro Convertible with a 600 lb man.

Does Brave Fencer Musashi count as an RPG? Played more like a Zelda game, but I seem to remember liking it. I like how everyone danced around FF VII, because of its new-found stigma as a noob game. It was a good fucking game, and if you haven't played it, at least check it out for historical significance. As much as i loved that game... like I loved Nirvana as a youngster, I do blame it for all the knockoffs that followed, and the unskipable cutscene. So as good a game as it was, it did kind of ruin gaming today.

EDIT: or maybe nobody mentioned it really, because it was the system's most popular title, and didn't need mentioning. I'm dumb.

Dances with Wolves 2 is gonna ROCK!

GameFAQS has BFM listed under their Role-Playing section, so I guess it counts.
Omnislash has nothing on Knights of the Round's duration.

This is the reason I have avoided every single Playstation System. I hate waiting.

Not if you start a New Game+ and try getting through the Chrysler Building. Shocked

I agree with you there Knyte! If you can find them buy'em. Suikoden 2 is one of the rarest games there is and it's worth it. Suikoden 1 is pretty good for the start of the series and it has moments that made me tear up way before Aeris getting knifed. Now for PS2 suikoden 4 isn't good as the first two, but 5 makes up for it.

Also, I would sugest Legend of Dragoon as well. It's a nice interactive fight sequences and change of pace.

Oh and yeah Brave Fencer Musashi is really good Action-RPG.

In ex-game mode, the normal campaign goes even faster, and then the chrysler building is more or less rogue/gauntlet style grinding, which hasn't been that fun since about 1985. If there was substance to that part of the game, I wouldn't have made my first statement, but I just found it to be a lot more boring than the main part of the game.

Final Fantasy VII. No doubt the greatest post-SNES game ever produced by Square; for that matter, best game evar post-SNES. VIII was grasping at straws - draw magic indeed.... - and IX was "OK". VII had Cloud, materia, and CLIMHAZZARD!!! Add to that the inclusion of the taboo of swearing into FF games, and you have a winner. IV was better though, but for PS....

GIANT OF BAB-IL!!!! (great biblical reference with that tower)

FF IX was one of the best RPGs on the Playstation for me, it was really unique and had a nice change of pace card game element. FF VII was good, the only problem for me was the long cut sense. Hell i could make a sandwich in the time it takes to use knights of the round.
I also remember playing Legend of Dragoon as a kid, and not being able to finish it because my friend had destroyed the disc.

Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden: Chapter One of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa is the only RPG that anyone ever needs.

Xenogears is still my favorite game of all time. Even though now--after some college under my belt-- I realize the "deeper" parts of the game are just sort of thrown together pieces of already existing philosophical and psychological ideas, the game still keeps me coming back for a play through once a year.
