Evolution is not "physical reality", it is a theory. It is a very compelling theory, and I personally endorse it, but IIRC, there are still some serious gaps in the fossil history.

You're confusing the word "theory" with "hypothesis." I theory is an organized set of ideas, a hypothesis is an educated guess. Evolution itself is not physical reality, it explains physical reality.

Creationism is a hypothesis, and will always remain so because there is NO WAY to test it. We will never know with absolute certainty whether or not there is a creator, and since creationism doesn't have any interest is explaining the creator's actual methods, what good is it as a theory? Evolutionary theory is applicalbe to things like DNA testing and computer programming, so it has a valid place academia.

It's condescending to religious believers to coddle junk science like creationism. As long as these crackpot theories are treated like legitimate science, the more religion will be viewed as hokey and obtuse. I don't want people who derive an admirable code of ethics from their faith to be marginalized in this society.

Nobody does notice. Seems every week, there's a new "Palin said something stupid" thing that was actually Fay.

Side note: 70 million people watched that debate last night, making it the most watched debate in US history. That's a metric fuckton of people.

I said, fuck it, I'm watching Walter Skinner on "Supernatural" and then "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". Cancel my "Office" will you! I'll catch the highlights over the weekend and on Hulu. Rolling Eyes

It's just becoming one now, as the economy has become center stage and it looks even more so like Obama won't be able to fund the programs he's proposed.

This is a ridiculous point to make. The economy has been a disaster since before Lehman, Freddie, and Fannie collapsed. And McCain had stayed out of the economic spotlight (even using the laughable stunt of "suspending his campaign" so that he wouldn't have to answer questions) until recently because of the fact that he pushed for deregulation HARD until the last minute, when it was apparent that the market was being manipulated by mortgage companies and nearing disaster.

The bill to regulate Fannie and Freddie was written by Dick Lugar; he put McCain's name on the bill 1 YEAR after it was introduced as a favor to McCain so that John could save face when the crisis would inevitably hit.

Hell, McCain already had attack ads made before the bill even passed; one for if the bill failed which would blame Obama and one that would bash Obama if it passed with too much pork attached.

Let's face facts and get back on the VP debate topic: Palin made a point to tell everyone in America that she wasn't going to follow the flow of the debate. She evaded a ton of questions, instead, she opted to "answer" those questions in follow-ups to other, unrelated questions in the form of quips and one-liners.

I just want to put out there that I don't hate McCain. While I am wholeheartedly endorsing Obama for president, I understand that there are people out there who fundamentally believe in the Republican platform and want to see McCain in office as much as I want to see Obama in office. The distinction of this thread is on the VPs; specifically the debate, but naturally the focus shifts to which one is a better fit for the office, and that's fine.

I honestly believe it's a no-brainer; Palin is nowhere near ready to lead this country if she had to. She reads off a teleprompter or note card well, she can recite information with charm, and she can disarm you with winks, "darns", and "golly gees". Does anyone really think that if (god forbid) McCain shuffles off this mortal coil that anyone in the world would respect "President Palin"? Hell no.

I get that some people want someone "like them" to be in the office (and Palin's continued insistence that she's just like "Joe Six-Pack" belabors this point) but the 2nd highest office in the land, and the 1st highest office as well for that matter, should be going to people who are smart, intellectually curious, have ideas that they are willing to implement whether or not the viewpoint is popular, are willing to back off if those ideas don't work, and are able to work with people whose ideologies don't necessarily mesh with their own. I don't want someone who had never met a world leader until last week, didn't own a passport until last year, has zero credibility when it comes to the most important issues of our time (the economy, terrorism, foreign relations, healthcare) and who said herself a few months ago on national TV that there's no way she'd take the VP position.

If you're shifting back and forth between McCain and Obama and you're still undecided, then the fact that McCain picked someone like Palin for purely political and aesthetic reasons should sway you towards the Obama/Biden ticket.

Obama picked Biden purely for politcal reasons too;

1. He needed some who could directly attack McCain while he was busy selling us meaningless platitudes
2. He needed someone to sell white males on his ticket

While that's true, I'd also like to believe that Obama was also fulfilling a prophecy. Which means a year into Obama's presidency, Biden will invoke the 25th amendment and get Obama removed as president.

...You know, replace "Palin" with "Obama", and that's pretty much how I feel about the Democratic ticket. Except Obama's actually running for the top spot.

I'm not too worried about someone with inexperience in the VP spot. If the Dem ticket were Biden/Obama and not Obama/Biden, I'd be a lot more interested in it. Vice President is probably the best way to learn the President's job. It's not like they can do anything else unless the Senate ties.

And by "prophecy", you mean "story arc from 24".

I would totally vote for Dennis Haysbert.

While this has been said many times on this board, and I'll damn well continue, I can't help but notice how much Biden is like Prescott.

Co-sign. If it weren't for his crazy ass wife, David Palmer would go down in history as the best president of all time. He gets my vote.

Biden is also arguably the most knowledgeable foreign policy Democrat available, and would also be an appeal to women voters (For his past legislation on female civil rights).

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I thought that SNL skit parodying the VP Debate was pretty funny.

First one that is considered analogous to the SNES gets my vote.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.
