Ok, guys I am in the mood for a really good PSX RPG. I have dabbled with/beat a few choice ones but was looking for some helpful input.

I suggest you try playing a real RPG on a real system instead, as all Playstation RPG's are shit. Try Fallout for PC, it's the best RPG ever made. If you disagree, shut up idiot.

I am really enjoying the second Star Ocean, it has such an interesting presentation and overall style. The combat system is great as well.

Final Fantasy IX and all of the remakes (Origins, IV, V, V) are nice. I haven't played VIII that much, but it seemed okay. Final Fantasy Tactics was the absolute best in my opinion, if you like tactical RPGs.
Also: Suikoden and Grandia.

Its not a traditional jrpg, but parasite eve is definitely worth checking out, as well as the sequel. It was billed as a cinematic rpg, but it is essentially a survival horror rpg in the end,

FFIX was very underrated, IMO

Seven had good music. The story was well-developed, but the battles had awfully long sequences. I could easily join the army, advance a few ranks, build a house, impregnate six women and become a rock and roll legend by the time Cloud finishes his Omnislash.
But it is definately a must, even if just to see what's everyone getting so hyped about.
Also: overworld graphics are both ugly and awesome. There are some great backgrounds, but character models are awful.

Breath of Fire III and IV are both fairly enjoyable, even if they're not quite as good as BoF II for the SNES.
Final Fantasy Tactics is also a good choice. Though, the PSP version is definitely better, mainly due to drastically improved dialogue.
And, if it counts, Mega Man Legends. Holy shit, that game was amazing.

Vanguard Bandits was a good tactical RPG. Anything by Working Designs is a good game.
