Well, I think there are plenty of good games. But if you don't care/aren't impressed, there are tons of great games on last-gen systems. Hell, if I really devoted myself to playing all of the great games on PS2, by the time I was done, the PS5 would probably be out by then. Hell, I probably play my PS2 more than I do my 360 or Wii. |
I didn't say there weren't good games, I just said I wasn't impressed with the current generation of consoles. The jump from PS1 to PS2, N64 to GameCube, Saturn to Dreamcast and the debut of the Xbox were more exciting in my opinion. I haven't even considered buying a new console besides the Wii because nothing about the 360 or PS3 really strikes a key with me. But yes, I am planning on purchasing a PS2. That will definitely keep me busy until some major console price drops.

How does one not love the Wii? I mean, yes if you are only looking for a graphical experience, and you are not looking toward game play, then yes you may not like the Wii. I think though to call it useless or even borderline useless misses the point entirely. Great games are coming out for it more and more, it has a great price point, not the cheapest anymore, but not bad at all. Plus, I love motion controls. I mean some people may hate things like, why do I have to use a "motion", or why can't I have a regular controller and not have to move the Wiimote. Well you can, either a classic controller or a Gamecube controller, and for the games you can't, frankly they are games that deserve motion.

I don't think that's a fair statement. You can't label all fans of the 360 or PS3 that way. Are good graphics nice? Sure they are. But to imply that every game that's out on one of those two systems is a mindless graphical display devoid of good gameplay is just plain wrong. Microsoft/Sony fans often get labed with the "fratboy" label, just because there are so many retards out there who never shut the fuck up about how great Halo and GTA are. And then those of us who don't subscribe to that mentality have to hear it from Nintendo fans.
I know that Wii fans don't appreciate the "kiddie-Fischer Price" insults that some other gamers throw your way. Well......that's how us 360 and PS3 gamers (those of us with a brain) feel about being spoken condescendingly to when it comes to our systems.
I have played the Wii on numerous occasions. I think it's fun to play with other people, but I don't think I would enjoy playing it nearly as much by myself, which is how I play 99% of my videogames. Thus, I have no desire to be a Wii owner. I enjoy my Xbox360 because I enjoy GOW, Oblivion and sports games. Are my personal preferences really so wrong?
I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything, but it just irks me how some Nintendo fans talk down and label non-Nintendo fans with the mindless fratboy image.

Watch what you say about the Wii around here......Nintendo has a very strong following (not that there's anything wrong with that). Though I agree.....it doesn't really appeal to me either.
I have an X360. The only PS3 exclusive that interests me is MGS4, but if history is any indication, Microsoft will eventually get it.
Gears of War is fucking fantastic, and I was never even a fan of shooters. I'm pumped for GOW2 in November. |
Well to be honest I bought a forty gig ps3 and I love it. I've never been into x-box because I could only see one game at the time that brought out it's only potential was Halo. Without Halo, would X-Box even exisist? Further more, most of the games on X-Box come out on PC and often times (depending on you GFX card) It's alot better then what was on the Console.
About MGS4, I read an interview about Hideo Kojima and he clearly stated that unless Sony goes under, he will never let his Cannocical Metal Gear Solid Franchise leave the Playstation family. With that said, X-Box 360 owners will have to either wait until Sony is finished with anything game related (which will never happen) or mod it so that they can play it on their X-Box.
I'd say wait until they discontinue the 40 gig PS3 (which should happen around late october earlier November) and lower the 80 gig price to the 40 gig if not less. That way in the long run, if you play console games online it will be free and you won't have to either pay a yearly or monthly fee or however live does it. But if you really want to buy an X-Box I'd say go with the Pro (I think) setup that way it's not geared towards younger gamers. But my choice would honestly be the PS3.

I actually think there is quite a gap between Xbox and the 360. But I wasn't a big Xbox fan.
But yeah, PS2 is the way to go. Aside from maybe the NES (maybe) I don't know if there is another system with the amount of quality games. Add in backwards capability and you may have the best system ever. I went to rent a game today and looked through the PS2 games. There are a ton of games that look awesome that either I've never played, or I've never even heard of. I may just take my Christmas money and buy a bunch of PS2 games rather than getting games for my 360 or Wii at 60 bucks a pop.

Saying that people who are interested in the 360 and PS3 are only interested in graphics is completely unfair. And then heralding the Wii as some sort of cosmic bringer of gameplay is just ridiculous. Here's a news flash: Just because a system has shitty graphics doesn't mean it's games inherently have better gameplay.
My biggest disappointment far and away with the Wii has been the gameplay of it's games. The motion sensing just isn't where it needs to be for it to be a viable control scheme for most games. It's an unresponsive sloppy mess 90% of the time. And yes, I realize there are other methods of controls available, but the problem is most publishers aren't using them. They've decided instead, that they have to slap together some half-assed motion controls for anything they put on the system.
And BTW, The 360 Arcade unit is $200 now. It isn't the most ideal SKU but it does make the 360 the cheapest current generation console.

I've been wanting to get another system, we have a wii my brother gave it to us last christmas. But I'm not sure what to get, I like the 360 and its exclusives are really nice but the hardware issues and wireless online issues bother me. PS3's online is attractive and a lot of the good games on 360 are also on it as well as mgs4 which i want but the games that make me want to get a 360 are all exlcusives
