This group doesn't seem like a target audience for American Idol.
I imagine that most people here might catch a glimpse of an episode when it is in season, but not necessarily watch the show.
I especially doubt that anyone here is actively voting. I know that I have never voted and no one I know has ever voted.
But if the rules were different would you vote?

Shows like this bore me to tears. I don't understand how people can get so passionate about it. The over-the-top drama they add to it as well just makes it even worse. Yawn.

I guess I watched it the first season when it came out. Maybe 4 episodes or so. Ever then I haven't been impressed. The people with REAL talent rarely make it through the first round of auditioning (even before they meet the TV judges). It's a joke.

I'd totally watch American Idol at least once if they were running through the Eliminator. I don't know if the new one has it, or if so, what it looks like now, but conjure up the old one and I'll grab my popcorn.

I might actually watch it if it wasn't for the fact that Ryan Seacrest is one of the douchiest douchebags in the history of douchebaggery.

A friend of mine was a cameraman at a Fox affiliate, so he got to shoot a bunch of auditions. For the first round (the round before you get to meet the 3 real judges), the 3 judges were Bill from accounting, possibly some sort of producer, and the evening weatherman. While I forget exactly who the first two were, I assure you that the weatherman was one of the judges. Everyone got to sing for like 10 seconds in groups of 5, so there was no actual solo singing yet, if I recall his account of the details correctly.

I was giving the show the benefit of the doubt. How naive of me.

Sadly i watched most of season 5 then i saw season 6 which forced me to vow never to watch the freaking show again. It just proved that the internet had too much power towards the shows results and the online drama was by far more entertaining. But heres the thing, i refuse to vote. I'd only vote for who was best that night once and since little Susie could vote for 'da cutz giee' for 20 billion times, I see no point in voting for this shit. After watching one season, it's novelty wares thin fast.
while i agree with the middle and second last option, i have to go with the last one out of princible. Now if the show prompted the viewers to vote Paula, Randy and Seacrust off the show, then maybe i'd vote . . . but no.

I watch it every now and then. But I'm pretty much sick of it. I was a big fan of Bo Bice and Taylor Hicks because I loved how they were throwback artists. So I actually watched quite a bit of season 4 and 5. But then they got hosed when the made their albums. I guess it is a good deal for people who are ready for the modern radio. But unfortunately, instead of targeting their fanbase in their respective genre, they decide to make them radio friendly for the pop charts. Doesn't work that way.
I suppose they know how to market a show. But where they fail is making albums for the winner and runner up.

Where they fail is having weeks with genres no one can pull off like Latino week and "no doubt" week, "Donna Summers" week. I mean, they should stop having artist weeks because it's horrifyingly to watch great artist's songs barely done right. Plus it limits things in a ways that make most of the contestant uninteresting and some even more uninteresting. The only reason to watch american idol now a days is to know what the AI fans are yaking about on youtube and make fun of them based on their false opinion of the show. Oh and they should never do a charity show without letting the audiance know right away that no one would be voted off, giving people a reason not to waste their time.

If I wanted to see no talent people trying to sing, I'd watch the drunks downstairs sing in a slur and laugh my ass off.

If you could organize it a little bit and make a video of it... you might be able to sell it to Break.com
