If I preorder online can I get this shit? I don't like dealing with the clerks at EB, they're annoying.

Yeah, they advertise it there. And also, it depends on what EB games you shop at. The one in the mall here has clerks who suck ass, but the one we have near Target has clerks that are pretty cool.

Everyone who was not a prick at my EB games was swiftly replaced by a prick.

And Im broke as hell, so the videogame series I love with all my heart will have to wait.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. The game centers around Jonathan Morris, son of the hero of Castlevania: Bloodlines for the SEGA Genesis.

Yeah, it does. The Morris' are some sort of subclan of the Belmonts, or something. Also, that game actually ties the main character (John) to a character in the Bram Stoker (or Stroker (or for that matter Stryker)) novel.

So what's up with this new CastleMania game? Is it an RPG-esque "Metroidvania" style game? What's so compelling about this installment?

They got rid of the soul system, quite possibly the best thing to have ever happened to castlevania.

In return, they promise a weapon system for the ages. Good idea. Or not. People pick one weapon and go with it until such time as a better one appears. 9 out of 10 times thats a sword, because nobody actually uses the slow ass axe or the wussy no range dagger.

A good thing is that it brings promise of change to the tired rooms of castle dracula thats been the standard since...SoTN.

I used the slow-ass axe in Dawn of Sorrow, and kicked ass with it.

Honestly, I liked the soul system.

I didn't like using the stylus. The game clearly wasn't designed for use with a stylus and the stuff that used it was fucking annoying.

I loved the soul system, too. But I remember on one boss, I had to input the pattern over 20 times because I had lost my stylus.

I *WOULD* use a dagger, if there were to be a powerful one. I don't mind having to get close. I think stylishly stabbing a zombie with a combat knife is more satisfying than fucking obliterating him to hell with a gigantic swing from the Claim.

Daggers should be fast attack, low range, medium-high damage (for a good one). It's fun to walk up to something and shank the shit out of it. Also I liked the "power attack" style attacks from Symphony where you could hit back then forward+attack quickly to do a "big swing" kind of thing. I'd like more moves like that with daggers, or hell, any melee weapon.

Also, I liked the Silver Bullet Handgun Cool

The fact that they are moving towards weapon system hopfully means that they are fleshing out item use beyond a sliding scale of speed versus power. An imput system complete with special attacks for each weapon, ideally worth using, now thats a good idea.

That could be good but I'm still not sure how they will top soul stealing. Prison violence cant manage better than abdomen stabbing and the occasional rape. Why bother breaking down someones sense of safety and emotional well being when you can simply take their soul and use it to threaten the ones they love? Then again, used in tandem....

I liked the gun, in Castlevania DS the gun+impsoul+convenient room exit meant you could farm the extremely difficult to get greataxe armor souls with great haste. Imp power, enter room, cap golem, quick turn out of room and quick back in, cap zombie, repeat 5 per imp activation.
