So I just read the comments for Super C and I have to say, What the fuck? I never remembered this game being hard. Even in my prepubescence I could beat it without dying. Did I just have a different cartridge than everyone else?

It's pretty hard, but not unbeatable. My friend and I used to have runthroughs of it semi-regularly, and we'd also play Contra Force, which admittedly sucks ass but was fun at the time.

One other thing, your quote about the first Zelda summed up my feelings for it pretty accurately, until recently. I actually gave it one more shot and it was kinda engrossing. I think knowing where the first dungeon was helped out a bit though. That game is really fucking hard though, I don't give a shit what anyone says.

I thought Contra Force was great (with the concept of Gradius x Contra).

Super C fucking owns me. I just suck at games in general, though.

There never was an image here, what the fuck are you talking about?

I wasn't a fan of Zelda either. Come to think of it, there were a lot of games for Nintendo that everyone else loved, but I never bothered with, like Mega Man and Contra. I know with Contra I didn't like being killed after one hit...

Well we all know how well Reagan and Contra went together.

Yeah, I was snickering about that to myself, imagining reagan talking about how he didn't like contra very much.

I would have SWORN there was something like a 99 lives code in addition to the 10 lives one. I can't imagine I ever beat that game with only 30 lives total.

My favorite trick is just getting to the fourth level (some weird sort of industrial building with deadly bubbles) and getting to a part of the level where it becomes vertical. If you can manage to hang onto the machine gun at this point, just keep your guy in front of a door that enemies keep coming out of, put a rubber band around the controller (to hold the fire button down) and give it a few hours. By that time you'll amass enough lives to get through three or four straight playthroughs.

I did a similar thing when I first got Contra, which involved standing near one of those spots on level 3 where rocks kept coming out. Bless the lack of a time limit.
