As it just won best drama last night i figured i'd mention it.

Is anyone else obsessed with this show? I picked up the first season on dvd a couple months ago and then startced watching season 2 when it airs this year and its easily one of the smartest, subtlest shows on tv right now.
There is some great acting, particularly John Hamm, who plays Donald Draper, a 1960's Madison Avenue Ad Exec. The show is depicts what turns out to be a really facinating crossroad of american culture in 1960.

Evidently, since everyone and their mother smoked back then everyone in the cast actually smokes on set. They drink from their bar in their office at 10 am and treat the poor secerataries like garbage. There are a lot of (at least from my point of view) shocking culture differences between these people (who are our grandparents age, the kids in the show would be a little odler than my parents) and how we view things nowadays.

You would really be doing yourself a service to pick up the first season, and catch up with the 2nd season, its all on demand.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo!

Yeah this is a great show. I think there was another thread on this were I stated that the only thing that bothers me about the show is that AMC and all of it's sister networks have really gone overboard on promoting the show. It's gotten to the point were some channels have 2 or 3 bumpers every commercial break. Technically that doesn't count against the show itself, but somehow it cheapens it in my opinion. I am glad it won and is one of the only truly exceptional shows to come out in years. Hopefully they will lay off the promos now that it won best drama.

I started watching it like a month or so ago when AMC ran a marathon of it. So fucking good.
