This seems like the sort of movie we should've been all over months ago; Samuel Jackson playing an insane cop who terrorizes his neighbors? I want to see it just because it will probably be a hoot to see him go nuts with the role. I'm also pretty sure he takes roles based on how much fun he thinks it will be to make it, not how good the finished product will be. Like Snakes on a Plane sucked horribly but I bet it was a blast to star in.

I've been wanting to see this. Its hard for me to get out to watch a movie, so I'll probably wait until its out on DVD. But out of all of the previews I've seen on tv, this seems to be the one I want to see the most. Come to think of it, I can't even remember any other previews currently on tv.

I don't think they should reveal he's a cop in the trailer, but whatever.
This leads me to ask the question: Has Samuel L. Jackson EVER been in a good movie? Pulp Fiction and Star Wars definitely do not count as good.

I love it, when I saw the commercial and it had Jackson in it I was waiting to see how long it would be before he yells and then " I didnt give you permission to plant these trees ! " Ahaha gotta love it.

Once again, your definition of "good" is highly suspect. If you don't think Pulp Fiction is good, there's something wrong with you. I won't argue the Star Wars point since everyone just has a jolly old time bashing the prequels because they have overly fond and not completely accurate memories of the original trilogy but...

For what it's worth, I don't think much of anything Tarentino's ever done is good. He's even more of an arrogant douchebag than me, and it comes through in all his movies.

Yeah, except that people like what he writes and pay money to see it whereas your blog just gathers dust in a forgotten corner of the internet...

So, uh...what about this movie?
Looks OK to me. Not worth a real trip to the theater though.
And Snakes on a Plane was the shit, and one of the few movies I actually own on DVD.

Sorry, off topic, but I agree with you about people's inaccurate memories of the original starwars. People bash the dialogue in the new ones like the old ones didn't have incredibly cheesy dialogue as well. The thing that really bothered me about the new ones was Hayden Christianson, and an unexplainable urge to want to punch him in the mouth.

You don't have to like Pulp Fiction. Its hard to argue what movies are actually good when its all based on personal taste which is all nothing more than opinion. So I couldn't very well tell you that you are wrong. But we can see what movies were well received. For example, Pulp Fiction is #6 on IMDB's top 250 and has more votes than any other movie other than the first Godfather. So its not like only a few people think it is a good movie. I think it is okay to say that it is generally regarded as a good movie.
As for Samuel L, I dunno. I like him for the most part. I guess it all depends on personal taste. I don't usually regard most of the movies he is in as top tier by any means. But I really can't remember watching anything he was in and thought about how much the movie sucked. Even a movie like Snakes on a Plane appeals to some people.
As for Tarantino. I know how it works. It seems like a bunch of people like to slurp Tarantino because it makes them look hip or cool. He makes the anti-Hollywood blockbusters. At the same time, it seems like there is some appeal in disliking him. I'm not suggesting this is you, but it happens a lot. People dislike him because they think he is overrated because of all of the people I mentoned above. Personally, I love Tarantino. Its not because other people like him or not. I don't base my opinions on other people's opinions. I like him because I actually like most of the movies he puts out. I love Pulp Fiction. I love Kill Bill. I love Reservoir Dogs. All of those also happen to be in the IMDB top 250 (both Kill Bill 1&2). I loved Death Proof. Those are probably my favorite Tarantino movies. I haven't watched Jackie Brown yet, but it looks like the kind of movie I will really like.
Like I said, if you don't like 'em, cool. But its hard to say Pulp Fiction doesn't qualify as good when the people who do like it are ranking it up there with movies like The Godfather and Part II, Shawshank Redemption, Schindler's List. 12 Angry Men, Casablanca, Star Wars, LOTR, Raiders, etc.

Uh huh, and you're in Spanish Harlem eh? Is that how you tough ballas do things on "the streets", throw out insults and jokes that were old and childish in third grade? Is trolling message boards the new drive-by? You must be a really big, tough man.

Jumper was not as horrible as I thought it must be but it still was not a great movie.

I agree with you BZ; I was going in expecting something terrible, but if they had fixed a few plotholes in the movie, they could have done something grand.

Samuel L. Jackson was great in Pulp Fiction and you have to like him in The Incredibles voice role and a small role in Jurassic Park. Whether or not the movies he has been in have been any good or not - he still usually makes the most of his scenes. Any time he mutters any sort of derivative of the work 'fuck', he immediately owns the scene.
