Yeah, now they have an even worse show that they put even less effort into which is even more retarded

Yeah, they put so little effort into it, unlike that drivel Family Guy that everyone seems to love. I'm not going to bother defending TGTTM, because I am clearly outnumbered in these parts. I will say however, that regardless of your taste in humor, they do put effort into the show. That reminds me of my old boss when closing, I would play the Locust, and he would say, "I can play this crap, its just a bunch of random noise" even though they are one of the more technical and creative bands around.
But yeah, TRL stinks, though it doesn't matter that much I suppose, seeing as how i haven't watched mtv since i was like 16. I guess it may curb the terrorists hatred towards us, like somebody mentioned.

Yeah, it really takes a lot of effort and the mind of a comedic genius to put underwear on over your clothes, dry hump another man and babble nonsensically...
I could grab a bunch of random crap from around the house, hire a bunch of local bums and winos and make a better show than Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job. I just don't understand the appeal; is it because it's so terribly awful and stupid that it's "hip" to like it? Is the point of it to be not funny, extremely gay and shot like it's a public access show? Is it so bad it's "chic"? I just don't get it.
Oh, and how ironic is it that the show is the exact opposite of it's title?

Man, have you seen them live? They put on a good show. I would watch TRL if they were on there.

I never said they were genius. It's simply different taste in humor. Why is it that everyone that hates the show accuses people of liking it of trying to be hip? It's a fucking cop-out. Some people like metal, others like country. Different tastes is all. People love family guy, and I personally think its crap. its loosely written plot is just fodder for the 20+ that reminds me of the time... 80's pop culture flash backs.
You want to know what amuses me about the show? It's humor is akward, uncofortable moments, and yes the public access feel, and shitty instuctional video feel. Also, they do a lot of satire on pop culture, but just more extreme and absurd compared to a lot of other shows. I wouldn't belittle you and say its over your head, because that's a cop out too.. I'm sure your intellegent enough to understand the content, you just don't care for it. That's fine. I just don't like being told the only reason i like it is to be hip and different. Why the fuck would i subject myself to something i secretly dislike just to get hipster cred?
Sidewaydriver: Yeah I saw them in San Diego shortly after Plague Soundscapes was released, and they were amazing. Their drummer is phenomenal.

106 and Park (on BET) > TRL for days, just because they actually show the whole fucking video instead of only showing 5-10 seconds of it then cutting to a shot of random white girls screaming.
That said, I'm glad TRL is over, haven't watched it since I was 14. Of course they say it's coming back, but they said the same thing about Direct Effect/DFX.
Oh, and Tom Goes and it's spinoff.. just not my thing.

Hah, I didn't know TRL was still on. I'm so inept about MTV because I don't even watch television that much anymore (and trust me, when I do watch TV, I won't be flipping the channel to that particular channel).

That show really went downhill. It used to be good, and REAL. How 'bout that. REAL votes and numbers. Having a #1 used to mean something.
MTV screwed that up and also doesn't play music anymore...

So I'm not going to get chain letter asking me to vote for New Kids on the Block's "Hangin' Tough" anymore? Oh wait, they were probably back on the countdown anyway now.

That probably was the needle that broke the camel's back for the show

Thank God. Although the show sucks, I don't have any feelings towards it. I feel the same way about TRL going off the air as I would if C-SPAN went off the air.

I just don't understand the appeal at all so either there's something I'm missing (unlikely since we've discussed how the show is pretty much bare bones simple) or people just say they like it because it's the hip thing to do, whether they understand it or not. If you think it's funny, fine, you're entitled to your own opinion and they must be doing something right by the number of celebrities they get to be on it (which has dropped my respect level of said celebrities incredibly. Jeff Goldblum has nothing better to do, I know, but you Weird Al? You Rob Zombie?) but I just find it to be retarded and gay. In the most literal senses of those words.
