Like I get that it relates to Windows somehow, but what the fuck? What is this? Jerry Seinfeld giving Bill Gates shoe-shopping advice? What the hell does that have to do with anything? Unless they really are planning to make my computer moist and cakey...

Congratulations, you're now speculating, talking about it, and spreading the word -- exactly what they want you to do.

BZ, if you thought the commercial made no sense, imagine seeing it without audio. I was in the gym the first time I saw it. The sound was off, and the commercial isn't closed captioned, so I had NO idea what was going on. Once I saw it again with audio, I didn't have much more idea. It is unnecessarily long, though.

Not really a surprise, Microsoft is known for having terrible ads. If even IBM, one of the most boring companies in the business, has more interesting commercials than you, you should probably think about firing your marketing department.

YOU go to the gym? Ha!
Also, I hate Apple's "OMG, Mac is sooo much better than Windows!!!!1" commercials, but I do think the free pizza one is funny. If for no other reason than I would be lured in by a pizza box that mumbles "Free pizza" whenever you walk past it.

I think that this commercial was made on a bet that Microsoft couldn't make an ad campaign stupider than the Mac VS PC ads.

The Get a Mac ads are ingenious. If the number of spoofs is a measurement of how deeply something has entered the public consciousness, then the Mac ads have probably found their way into the pop culture lexicon by now, at least on the Internet. I don't see that happening for the Microsoft ads any time soon.

Yeah, but it only matters if they also sell the product, I still will never in my life own a Mac because despite all their claims otherwise, they're not easy to use and they do fuck up. Fairly frequently.

Well, seeing how clever marketing and a hip image play no unimportant role in Apple's success I'd say those ads are doing exactly that. Microsoft on the other hand is in the enviable position that no matter how shitty their ads are, most of their products will still be selling the same, because they have such a stronghold on the market. That's why I don't understand why they're even bothering with a costly ad campaign like that.

There's another one now with the two of them stealing a leather giraffe from some family? I'm so confused...

Fuck Windows. Windows PC's fuck up just as much if not more than mac's and you dont have to spend a great deal of money getting virus protection. I will still get one because you have to if you want to play any decent games, and that sucks.
That being said - I dont get them either. They dont even have anything to do with computers.
Though that Mojave experience commercial is pretty interesting.

Yay, another mac vs. pc showdown. I love my mac, even if it is an old piece of shit by todays standards. I hate vista, and when I build my new PC, it will have windows xp and ubuntu dual booted. But the ad, well, I didn't see it all, but I'm not going to run out and buy windblowze vagina after seeing it.

I just saw it on YouTube and this one is actually a little better. I genuinely laughed at Gates reading bedtime stories about object-oriented programming to the kid. He can be pretty funny and likable if put in the right situations, like in the "Last Day at Microsoft" video that he did when he retired. Too bad they don't use that talent enough.

Speaking of unintelligible, anyone emember Converse shoe commercials in the early to mid-90s? Those made no sense at all. They were like watching MTV's "Liquid Televsion". There was an animated one called "Lupo The Shoe Butcher" or something like that, and it was just a guy with a cleaver cutting up shoes. How the hell does that sell shoes?

I thought the commercial was actually pretty funny. Seinfeld came off as a douch bag but I actually liked Gates more for him doing something fun and stupid like this.
The funniest part was the kid who shows up with the pizza half stoned and sees Gates and Seinfeld

Yeah, real interesting that a bunch of random people pulled off the street who probably spend three hours a week on their computers played with Vista for five minutes and thought it was awesome. That's no way to test your operating system and convince people it doesn't suck. If they had given the program to a bunch of people with excellent computer skills and let them try it for a month then asked their opinion about it and got nothing but good remarks, then maybe I'd buy it.

Vista sucks no matter how you advertise it. I've used it and it is a major resource hog unless your machine can handle it. How many gigs of ram do you need? Like 4GB? that's ridiculous. What ever happened to the OS that only needed 512 MB to run optimally?
