I'm not. Maybe next election, if I actually care for the candidates that time.

Honestly, how hard is it to register? Just check a box when you renew your license.
It doesn't mean you -have- to vote.
And this may surprise some people, but there's all sorts of things to vote on besides the President. Senators, state reps, judges, initiatives...usually, I go to vote on the ballot initiatives.

I have to renew my license next year when I turn 21, but then it will be too late for me to vote for the next President (the only thing I care about voting as of now, but my mind might change).
Honestly I thought about just registering so I wouldn't get jury duty, but my town makes everyone get jury duty regardless of that. We have a VERY low turnout where I live.

I'm registered, however I never registered with city hall when I moved, so either I need to go ahead and do that, or go back to my old town to vote.

Yup. Registered on my eighteenth birthday. Instead of the porn and lotto route that most people go, I registered.
I didn't sign and register for the draft though. Even though they can throw me in jail for not doing so.
With my heart, I wouldn't last a day in a warzone.

We had an awesome government teacher in my senior year of high school. On the second day of school, he handed voter registration sheets to the students, and let you fill them out in class. He would then take all of them up to the courthouse on his own time when each kid was old enough.
It really irks me when people choose not to vote "because they don't like anybody." Well that may be, but one of the people on the long list will be put into office. It's best to put who you think would do the best job in there. I personally plan to vote for Obama, but he's far from my ideal view of a president. Hell, your vote can be a message, as well. Vote for a third party to send a message to the major parties that you want them to focus on a specific issue (Green for environmental legislation, Libertarian for the advancement of the mentally ill.. sorry, couldn't resist). Hell, you can vote for local governments to directly impact you. My friend won a write-in election to be his town's auditor without spending a dime of his own money.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

Dude, go do that. Not only does not doing it not get you out of a draft if the time were to come (a draft is very unlikely, and not being on the official list doesn't keep you out of it anyways), but it cuts you out of pretty much -anything- government-related. Financial aid is the big one, but every single Federal government program is cut off to you if you don't. Plus you can't hold public office. And if you don't do it by 25, it's cut off for good.
They won't throw you in jail for it, though.

I've got my voter registration card, but I haven't sent it in yet because I'm lazy. The cutoff day's not for another month (I think), so I've got time. My college (University of Texas at San Antonio) has voting locations on campus, which is pretty convenient. I'll be casting my vote for Obama simply because I really, really don't like the idea of the Republicans having power for the next four years, or the idea of the continuation of the war in Iraq.

What Usa said.
I registered to vote when I registered for the draft, because I wanted financial aid for college. And I got it.

Step 1 - Be smart enough to go.
Your high school counselor should be able to help you with that one.

Registered, hell yeah.
Decided, hell no.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |
