I understand making dvds so all of the scavengers can't burn them. But I've rented a several movies lately that my computer won't even read. I can't play them and when I try to access the drive, it says there is no disk in the drive.

Do you guys think its my computer or the way they made the DVD?

Thats a tough call, because I watch dvds using my computer exclusively and thats never happened to me, but at the same time I have heard about new drm restrictions on dvds that might do something like that. I don't know whats worse, it being a problem with your computer or it being a native property of the dvd itself. I don't see how making a dvd so that it won't play on a computer would be a smart move, since so many people know have media centers pcs, or at least use their computers as a dvd player.

Well, that's what I can't understand. Why would it be the DVD? But a lot of movies still play. It just started happening about a week ago. I got all of the Jason movies. Friday the 13th I-VIII all worked fine. But Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, and Freddy vs Jason wouldn't play on my computer. They did play on every other DVD player I own. It doesn't even act like there is a disk in my disk drive. I thought it was my computer. But then I played some other movies on it just fine. Now, I got 3 more movies, and only one works.

If it was my computer, why would it still recognize some DVDs but not others? If its the DVD's, WTF?

My my HP Lightscribe DVD drive started doing the exact same thing a few months ago, then it completely broke, weird clicking grinding sounds, unable to read jack squat, now it's an 80$ cup holder. Bleating and Babbling

You gotta be shitting me. I've been doing some research and it would appear that my drive may be going out. What sucks is that I've only had my computer since May or June.

At least you can get a decent replacement from Newegg for about 25-35$. Does suck that it broke down so fast, though I noticed that seems to be the trend for Drives these days.
