I swear every characters photo I see resembles something from DBZ, like Crono looks like Goku with a hair color change. Lucca looks like Bulma, That fat floating green guy thats named Ozzie looks alot like The Guru on Namek.

They were done by the same artist. Like Dragon Quest, and many other games that I can't think of due to a head cold.

DBZ is really just an archetypal sorta of animation style, that didn't begin or end with DBZ. Still, the similarity is astonishing, but lots of games had a similar style.
And for what its worth, I don't think Chrono Trigger is a rip-off of anything.

Fuck, I came into this too late. The Dragon Quest games (especially the ones as of late) also had Toriyama as the main artist.

Well, if you really want to get technical, Chrono Trigger was released in 1995.
Dragon Ball - 1986-1989.
Dragon Ball Z- 1989-1996.
Logic says, if anything, Chorno Trigger is a DBZ ripoff.
And let me conclude by saying I'm a moron, because I thought you said DBZ is a ripoff of Chrono Trigger, and I just wasted my time!

Dragon Quest 8 had a main character who looked like gohan, a female character that looked like bulma, and a paladin that looked like trunks. The fat guy looks like a fat guy.
He has a signature art style. Also, he has made jokes about his inability to draw more than one kind of female face.
Magus has piccolo fangs, except you can't tell because the picture they have in the menu is like the sad emo magus.

I hear that, this thread is unbelievable. Akira Toriyama, who created the character designs for DBZ, also worked on Chrono Trigger creating those character concepts as well. The man cannot rip himself off, end of story. The answer to the question headlining this thread, "no".

Also, the female dealer from Dragon Warrior III looks quite a bit like Bulma from DBZ, except with a different haircut. EXACT same clothes, though.

Ya, I was just asking a question. That question was, why were they so similar and then Quantinuum pointed out that the man who did DBZ's Art did Chrono Triggers Character Art. I didn't include the word character because I just didn't want to and I'm a lazy ass bastard.
