I'm working on a project and it seemed appropriate to sample some video game music. I started with listening to some of Sonic 2's music and used a couple of tracks. Then went on to 3 and Knuckles.

Is it just me or did these games have the most kick ass video game music!? I might end up scoring the whole thing with Sonic tunes... (said project is noncommercial, so don't worry folks. Cool )

Anyway, just wondering people's thoughts on Sonic music.

I agree. Sonic 2, 3, and even Sonic the Hedgehog had awesome music.

Fantastic music has always been one of the hallmarks of the Sonic series. I love the stuff. The Aquatic Ruin Zone music from Sonic 2 is one of my all-time favorites.

Oh, and did I mention I have an mp3 CD of nothing but Sonic music? Very Happy

Yeah man, Sonic music. Best music ever. I think that was truly Sega's best work ever, hands down. 1, 2, 3 and sonic and knuckles all had amazing music that rivals even capcom's best tunes. Fuck anyone who says the Genesis can't do good audio.

Sonic CD ruled (american and japanese soundtracks) and the music for Stardust Speedway (in the past) is one of my faves.

Did you know that the original soundtrack (Japanese and European) had J-Pop as music in the game? But some dude at Sega of America put in techno/electronic and and like fo the American release!?

Sorry, blabbing too much.

Also, I have a CD with a mix Sonic 1, 2, 3, CD and music from Gradius 1, 2, and 3.
(Gradius's music also rules^^)

Hey Murdar, maybe a slightly less spastic sig? The flickering makes it almost impossible to read posts, including yours. Wink

A lot of Sega games had the soundtracks changed for America release... not sure why. I believe the entire Streets of Rage series did, though it might just be SOR3.

I'm sorry, but when you dispense random bits of trivia, you have to say "Fun Fact:".

I agree, Sonic CD has fantastic music.

I had a CD of six pop songs from Sonic Adventure I got in Japantown. I don't know what happened to it, but I wouldn't put that in league with the music from the original games.

Sonic Rush for DS has some awesome music, but it's more fucked up (in comparison to other Sonic music) than even Sonic CD. The music actually sort of sounds like some sequel to the music in SCD.

I agree with you on that one. Sonic 2 did have the best music. (Especially the boss music. That's the quintessential Sonic boss music for me).

I'm still trying to get the local bands to do a decent metal version of it. There's already a few covers floating on the internet, but none of them are quite perfect.

Death Egg is a theme I've always liked, but if you play the game normally you only hear it for about two seconds!

Hidden Palace Zone also had a wonderful level sound. So sad sounding. Alas, it was cut and only exists now in the sound test.

The end credits medley is a fine listen when out and about.

Neo Green Hill Zone in Sonic 2 (or whatever the "water level
" was called) was always a fave 16-bit tune of mine

Steve Gavazzi, Marc Green
Jon Sly! It's time to play... WHICH DOUCHEBAG SAID THIS????

Sometimes I sit in the corner and hum the Chemical Plant Zone tune for hours on end. Until I wake up next to a big black guy named Jamal with a soar butthole. Then I realize it was all a dream. I was never humming the tune. I was just gay. Fuck.

Then again, sometimes it's the Ecco the Dolphin theme. Then I wake up in jail for violating various mammals in sea world... Sad

Depends on what song. I have a really good memory, so even though I hate country music, I've gotten rides from friends who love the stuff, so I occasionaly hear some in my mind (and then try to stab myself). The Flying Battery Zone theme (as soon as I typed it, it played in my head again) is OK by my book, though.

Sonic had some kick At Money Money music.

I liked pretty much all the music in the sonic games. I can pretty much single handedly blame sonic on my taste for electronic music.
