The internet is your friend.
Try ordering them online, or use ebay.

Man, I've paid almost $500 for books this semester, and I'm not even done with everything!
And yes, it IS a total rip-off.

I dropped out of high school in the 9th grade, and when I went back to get my transcripts so I could go get my shit together in college, they never knew I had dropped out and charged for all the books I had supposedly been issued. I know those books were still sitting shrink wrapped in whatever class they were for, but the butthole principal made me pay the outstanding balance anyway.

Quick tip, make sure the professor is actually going to use the book. Some prefer to use nothing but notes.

Exactly. I don't buy my books until after I attend class so I make sure it's needed. I saved like $130 doing this.

yeah, I managed to make it halfway through my Art History course without that fucking book. The thing weighs 11 pounds. At least it is good and useful enough that I kept it and will still use it for reference.

I only paid around $240 this semester. It's my cheapest semester in a long time I think, which is funny because this semester I bought the largest number of books I've ever had to get (11 books for four classes).

alot of the time the teacher has extra copies or old versions of the textbook and are willing to let you use them because I think they realize the overpriced book thing too.

I spent over $700 this semester, which I am not too upset by seeing as I spent $50 all last year on my books. I think it averages out quite nicely

Damn... I guess it has been a while since I bought books. I don't recall spending ~$700 for books in a semester.
$250 seems pretty reasonable though. Half.com & Amazon should help though.

All the courses this year required brand new books. i still would've ordered some but the sent the book list 3 days before classes start so you have to order from the crappy oncampus bookstore

It's essentially Amazon Marketplace or an eBay store. I've bought a couple of books using that site.

I would have used it but my books were all new editions for this year and they were just for my school so harder to find
