I haven't played Zelda since Link to the Past, and I haven't played a true Mario game since the first SNES one, but overall I much preferred Zelda. Platformers have never been my thing.

i think link is cool.
zelda is kind of a worthless cunt. except in wind waker, she was kind of bad ass as a pirate chick. and as sheik of course.

It might not be life, but it IS a college course! 
Anyway, I vote Mario. The Zelda series is pretty darn awesome overall, but I've had much more fun and better memories with the Mario franchise than I have had with Zelda.

Best the question is "Mario" or "Zelda". There is no mention of Link.

Are Italian Plumbers anyone's cup of tea?
Despite this, I have to go with Mario. Note that Mario's abilities to jump quite high and shoot fireballs are innate abilities, while Link can't really do much without his weapons.

Mario always gets my number one VG Character ever. He might be no ones cup of tea, but that doesnt mean he doesn't kick ass. Link gets my 3rd Favorite VG Character ever, right after Crono from the best SNES RPG ever made called Chrono Trigger.
