Anyone ever play the game Heroquest? It had for characters an Elf, Barbarian, Dwarf, and Wizard. (How racist is making two classes out of races?) The game also had expansion packs and was quite a feat for MB at the time (IMHO). I remember going the whole way to South Carolina, from Pencilvania, when I was 11 to get one of the expansions - Return of the Witch Lord. My father was a saint for that.

I even made my own expansion based on Final Fantasy and the four Fiends. Used the Chaos Warriors and gave them ridiculous stats to beat. Also incorporated the use of player-used Chaos Magic.

Anyway, any fond mammaries out there?

This was an excellent game, but if you were driving FROM Pennsylvania, thus presumably you lived there, how could you spell your own state's name so wrong?

Yes, I live/lived there. Thank the public education. I also can't spell 'chrysanthemum', dammit.

On the bright side, at since you spelled it using the word pencil, at least you didn't spell it pensil.

Yeah I remember that game. It had little tables, weapon racks and book shevles to put in different places. Also, I remember me and my brother used to pronounce the "Choas Knight" figures as Cha - os, pronouncing the Ch like in "chalk".

LOL. To be frank - no, I don't want to be Frank - the spelling 'Pencilvania' is derived from colonial accounts of Pennsylvania and was used on maps and such during said colonial period. Stupid me, it stuck.

I remember wanting to play this so bad when I saw the commercials for it. As for the races being classes thing, it was just something they borrowed from the original edition of Dungeons & Dragons.

I bought it at a garage sale about a decade ago. It was awesome. I'm sure it still is, but I haven't played in eight of those ten years.

Yea, it was great becuase you could just pick it up and play and instantly have a good time.
Yet, if you dedicated the time, it was surprisingly deep and rewarding.

Yes this was a great game! I still remember clearly the birthday that I received HeroQuest from my uncle and I remember thinking what a huge and epic game it was. It took about 2 hours to set up for the first time and go through the rules which is always the mark of a legendary board game.

On a side note, the first few expansions are quite rare these days, so if you still have them laying around in good shape, keep a hold of them! I'm sure the first edition of the game itself is also worth keeping for it's value.

I had this game as well when I was 11 back in 1991. I never really figured out how to play it though. I did like all the mini-action figures it came with though.

I actually painted them all when I got into my "collectible paintable-figures" phase. I can reminisce about Warhammer and D&D figures, but I won't. Heroquest was a good game, it taught me the word "imbued," via the chaos zombie, and for that, I thank it.

I wasted so much time of my youth painting Eldar and Space Marines for Warhammer 40K.

The figures were soo sick though...

Impressive painting job if those are yours.

They are not, haha, just using them for example. Mine were badass though, I will see if I can find any. They kind of had the Braveheart white and blue theme going on.

I remember the commercial for this game on tv, but my only experience with this is is when Quest for Glory 1 was called "Hero's Quest" by Sierra before they got sued.

This is a game that I remember fondly until I sit down to play it. Still, good times.

Thanks for the link. Heroquest, I guess, was my attempt to make up for D&D, as I had been born in the 80s. Great game anyways, and I will be glad to play its computerized version. Freakin' zombies are one bite away from STD!

Thanks for that link. I enjoyed playing HeroQuest again. In the age of boardgames, for me, when I had HQ and AD&D, I appreciated this game a lot. Thanks for the PC compatible version.
