Can we discuss the Olympics?

I read the forum rules and the Olympics were not listed but some of the sports, like hockey are present during some Olympic games, depending on the season. Personally, I don't watch the Olympics much anymore and the only thing i give a shit about when their taking place is the US wins at least SOME gold metals.

If we can discuss the Olympics then what do you think? Is the US ready this year? Should people boycott these games because of that whole thing with China and Tibet?

I remember a protest against the Beijing Olympics took place on campus. I walked by it, not know what the hell was going on and some guy came up to me out of no where, with the most blank look on this face giving me a pamphlet about their cause without saying a word. I didn't read it and gave it to someone else. I have a feeling the guy who gave me the pamphlet was only there because he had the hots for this one chick and was only there to impress her. Or maybe he was just really existed on the inside about their cause.

Favorite game during the Olympics: Hockey, because it reminds me of Might Ducks 2. Twisted Evil

I don't care too much for the Olympics, I reckon.

As far as the protesting goes: Why? How many protesters out there do you suppose owned something made in China? If they make something desirable to us its ok, but when they are hosting a fucking event it's a problem? Get real. We rely on China to make our crap, as much as they rely on us to make them money. That's why i'm not concerned about a war with China. They need us. Hit them where it hurts: don't buy their crap if you don't like their practices. The Chinese government is laughing in their Scrooge McDuck gold coin banks.

Finally, the Olympics have started. I know, the Olympics are boring but I might as well pay attention to them. Most of the events today are boring. rowing shit and cycling. the only part of the cycling race i'd like to see is the great wall section. I wonder if they will televise the ping pong games. That'd be sweet. There's alot more sports but that's what I saw on TV. The opening ceremonies were kickass though.

Oh yeah, there's beach volleyball too. Didn't know that was an Olympic sport

You guys are stupid, the Olympics happened four years ago. You're a little late for discussing them.

That opening ceremony was fucking epic. China is really went out of its way to make the opening ceremony was great as the possible could.

As for the sports, I really only want to see the judo, fencing, both ypes of wrestling, and tae kwon do. Oh, and boxing.

Is NBC planning on airing any table tennis footage?
I've sorta been following the olympics, some of it is boring. I don't plan on watching the gymnastics, but the cycling, volleyball, rowing, and swimming was entertaining.

I am not a huge fan of the Olympics.

Do we send professional athletes or not? Sometimes? Great...

Is it in a country that will broadcast it in its entirety or just the parts that they deem to be appropriate?

All in all, I just don't give a shit.

Yay for Michael Phelps, but I'm really embarrassed to be from the same state as Alicia Sacrimoni. She is a choker of epic proportions. Having said that, if she were legal I'd hit it.

Alicia Sacrimoni is 20 and therefore, quite legal. She did choke bigtime, but I feel bad for her.

On a related note, China is a bunch of fucking cheaters. Three of the people on their women's gymnastics team are too young to legally compete, but the IOC said they were okay. They also for some reason forgot about documentation that says that one of their gymnasts (her name is He I think) is fucking 13. Cheaters.

At first I didn't care TOO much about medal count, but now I really, really, really hope we beat the Chinese in the final medal count, considering the crap they put their athletes through. Fuck em. Embarrass them on their home turf.

I really don't mind that the Chinese are using young kids to cheat, as it is a bad way of cheating. Young kids have no idea how to handle being in front of crowds that large, so they are much more likely to screw up. Plus, every country cheats, it isn't like this is some new phenomenon. I am sure America would be pulling the same shit if they thought they could get away with it.

Also, anyone want to tape the Tae Kwon Do for me and put it up on youtube? I don't get the channel it is on and I really want to see it.

Bela Karolyi disagrees with you. Last night he talked about how the younger athletes put less pressure on themselves since they're too inexperienced to know otherwise. It's the older athletes, the ones that might not have another chance, who have had the experience of losing in front of large crowds, that put the pressure on themselves. Last night, that's exactly what Karolyi said happened to the 20-year old Sacramone. Beyond that, several (including Nellie Kim, ex Soviet badass gold medalist), have said that being younger means being smaller and lighter (and more capable of performing certain stunts).

And apparently the U.S. (or anyone else for that matter) could have gotten away with it. The Chinese did. Hell, three on their team registered for lower-level events this year listing 14 or 15 as their age. Gaining an advantage is one thing; screwy nationally-issued documents are another.

I'd argue that, because if you told me when I was thirteen that I was going to be preforming infront of millions of people and if I screwed up people around the world would see it, I would have shitted my pants right there. But I have a case of stage fright, so I might not be the best person to judge that. Also, yes, being younger also means generally being smaller and lighter, which helps with some stunts, but it also means weaker and less able to preform other stunts. In my mind that balances that out.

Yeah, so I take back what I said about Sacramone. I was pissed; I'm sure she's a nice enough girl and she's been gracious enough to take blame. I just hope she doesn't end up beating herself up about it. US still won silver and she's still a bright kid. I mean, she's going to Brown. I'm sure she'll be ok.

Am I writing this because she's hot and from 2 towns over and I could conceivably meet her/hit it someday? You better goddamn believe it.
