Yup. I'm not a RHCP fan and I liked it.

I heard the whole album and it does kick ass. Lots of good songs this time around from the Chili Peppers.

For the love of god!

a) The sleeve art is akin to that of a magazine cover give-away!!??
It appears as if the band spunked the entire recording/marketing budget upon conceiving this woefully bloated and unnecessary double-album.
As a result they were left with £2.00 to get the artwork sorted and gave a twelve year old ten minutes to rustle something up.

b) The video for "Dani California" appears to allude to the suggestion that the Chilli Peppers are the culmination of fifty years of popular music!!??
Am I the only person who finds this both humorous and disdainful in equal measure??

Anybody ever work with root ginger?

Never being a big RHCP fan, I am not sure if I am justified to say this but I think
the band has made the usual musical suicide : re-run, re-run, recycle recycle etc.

Crap

I'd rather burn out, than fade away

I heard they could be getting in trouble for blatently ripping off the Tom Petty song "Mary Jane's Last Dance". Dani California apparently has the same tempo as it. If Tom Petty decides to sue the CD will have to stop being printed. I've heard it on a couple local radio stations up here. The stations played clips of each and it sounded quite similiar which is to bad, since I really like Tom Petty, I hope they didn't rip the man off. I know I'd be pissed if I were him, I'm surprised he hasn't sued if it is true...

If he sued, they'd probably settle out court for several million dollars plus royalties.

I remember back in 1997 or so, when The Rolling Stones album Bridges To Babylon came out, the first single "Anybody Seen My Baby?" had K.D. Lang listed in the writing credits. It wasn't because she actually helped write the song in any capacity, it was because someone pointed out to them the part of the song sounded like her song "Constant Cravings" and they wanted to avoid any potential lawsuit.

You can't copyright a tempo, or a chord progression. The only thing you can copyright is lyrics, and only for two years, I believe.

I don't exactly know the entire story, and it all I've heard about it is from local radio stations, so it may not be to reliable, but when they the first verse of "Mary Jane's Last Dance" and some of "Dani California" it did sound similiar, but I'm not sure how close things have to be to sue or any of the legal issues with it, but it's worth listening to both to hear the similiarities. I might be wrong, but isn't the thing that Vanilla Ice stole from Queen and David Bowie a Chord Progession? They sued him I believe. Only being able to copy right lyrics for two years doesn't sound right at all, once you write lyrics on your own and copyright then, I would assume that you own those lyrics for life and people can't just go using any of them they want. I'm probably wrong though, since I really know nothing about that type of stuff...

Butbut.. HIS song went "dun dun dun dun dun DUN" and theirs went "dun dun dun dun dun dun dun". There's that little chime, yo.

Credit to anyone who gets it.
