I played Sudoku for the first time today. I saw it in a newspaper lying on the table, so I decided to take a break from Chessmaster and give it a shot. I thought it was supposed to be challenging and addictive, but after I solved it, I didn't want to do anymore. My improvised system worked perfectly and I solved it in about an hour. I can't find much for average times, but I went through it systematically, so my time probably could have been faster. There's not much variability and since I pretty much have the basis down, I'm done with it. Chess is so much better.

Other thoughts on Sudoku?

Nuts to that shit. If I have an hour to kill I'll play Mahjongg, because I'm a fucking dork.

Or stare at a wall, I usually just stare at a wall.

I'm not an exciting person.

Not an exciting person? My friend will look at his shoes with his mouth moving up and down for hours on end. It's not that he's thinking of something to do: I think it's his way of resting his mind or something.

Chess and such is fun, but the real king here is Connect Four. Unless you have no friends to play with, then I'd go with: Nothing. One-player board games suck.
And sudoku will be unknown in a couple months, I hope.

Playing against yourself in chess in actually very effective, if you have a general idea of what to watch for. Bobby Fischer did it all the time... just try not to go off the deep end...
