Welcome to the forums and the site,by the way. They are a little ornery these days and are on a downward spiral but I hope you enjoy your stay anyways.

I agree with Syd that Super Punch-Out is a shitty punch out game, sure. But I disagree that it's not a good game in general. I had a blast finding out all the patterns and beating ass in seconds, especially on tubby bastards like the clown.

I agree with Murdar.

It's a good boxing game, but it's not Punch-Out.

It's basically Nintendo made a boxing game and slapped the Punch-Out name on it because they knew it would sell better than if they called it Super Nintendo Boxing or something like that.

It's like if they made a truck racing game and then threw the word "Excite" in the title so that people would associate it with Excitebike and buy it.

Oh wait... THEY DID THAT.

I'm not sure that's entirely fair, though. I think it would be more accurate to say that it's not NES Punch-Out. It does, however, look an awful lot more like the original arcade Punch-Out games -- one of which was indeed called "Super Punch-Out".

It does and it doesn't. Both the NES and SNES Punch-Out games incorporate elements from arcade PO games, but neither game is quite the same.

I'm also not a huge fan of the arcade games, part of that is because I played them later on. PO-A and SPO-A came out in 1984 and 1985 respectively, at which point I was preschooler, so I missed the bulk of their arcade run.

When the NES Punch-Out came out in 1987, I was old enough to be playing video games... and I was definitely playing MTPO. I also began playing some arcade games around this time, but by then Punch-Out machines had been removed to make room for games like After Burner, Operation Wolf, APB, Contra, Double Dragon, and Lifeforce.

When I finally saw a PO-A machine, I tried it, because hey, it was Punch-Out. I was not impressed. The games are OK, but they lack a certain magic that the NES game has. Maybe I would have liked it better if it didn't have annoying voice clips. Or if my guy didn't have green hair. Or if he didn't turn into a grid.

Graphics aside, I truly believe that MTPO is the best game to bear the P-O name.

I'm glad they slapped the Excitebike name on E64, or otherwise I would never have bought or played that great game. I was definitely angry that it was so dissimilar to the original, but I was mollified by them including the original on the cartridge.

I first found this site on wikipedia when reading about Street fighter 1. I laughed my ass off, I even emailed Syd saying how much I love the site. I got no response of course. Sad

You didn't?

Well, I'm lazy... and I'm sorry.

Sometimes I reply to my e-mail sometimes, I don't. Usually it takes around a week for me to get off my ass and reply to something. If it's lengthy or it asks a question, I'll usually write back. If it's a few sentences, sometimes I just don't bother. Yeah, I'm an ass.

Agreed. I just feel that Super Punch-Out really is a P-O game, not just another boxing game with the franchise name slapped on. However, that doesn't make it good, either.

Rofl, no problem. I was just saying I'd love a Battletoads article I think....it was like 2 years ago. Site is still funny as hell though, if Street fighter and fun were people, Street fighter would tie fun to a radiator and rape the fucking shit out of it won me over.

I stumbled on this site because my friend in the military told me I need to read the 100 NES Games article. I read them all and starting crying from laughter, especially on the Monster Party Review. I was hooked and then about 3-4 months later I decided that it was time to pop my forum cherry.

I came to the site while reading about Robot Masters. Read that, read the rest of the articles, read all of the comics and news, and wanted more content. I said "hey, what are forums"? So, I lurked for a couple months and then joined up. I'm 16 now, and I was 15 when I joined. It's really no big deal.

Most of the articles that brought people here didn't exist when I found the site. The MK Fatality Fest was the most recent article. Even scarier is that Tebor has seniority over me.
