Here's some of mine
The Halo Series- Decent, but definitely not the best series ever
Madden- I don't even really watch real football, so this might be a little unfair
Guitar Hero and Rock Band- I'd rather learn how to play a real guitar
Call of Duty- Fun, but not as great as everyone says
Resistance- Same as above
Those are some games I think are overrated. As you can see, FPS games are not my style. I actually like classic games, like SNES, N64, and Genesis.

I don't really like any of the Mario games, as I don't care for platformers. But I can't say with a straight face that they're overrated, because obviously a shit ton of people like them.

As indicated in my sig, I think both Halo and Wii Sports are the most overrated games of the past decade. Halo 1 was decent, but certainly not the historic milestone that it somehow became. Halo 2 bored me, and I never played any Halo's after that.. Wii Sports I just couldn't understand for the life of me. I found it completely and utterly boring, yet people creamed their pants for it. Were the motion controls really that exciting? I just didn't get it.

Somehow I can't imagine this thread ending in any sort of positive way. I'd post a list, but I know somehow, some way it'll be fuel for a flame war and thus not worth it.

Wii Sports is essentially a tech demo. In age where pack-in games at launch were completely unheard of, Wii Sports was a freebie. It's fun, but it also doesn't feel like a complete game. Wii Sports Resort is the game that Wii Sports should have been.

Wii Sports also set a bad precendent for the Wii: mini game collections! Seriously, how many fucking mini game collections do we need. And most of them are terrible. Deca Sports 3 is going to come out! WHY? The first two were mediocre.

It irritates me that Wii Sports is the best-selling game ever, but I'm proud that Nintendo holds that honor.

As for overrated, MvC2. I had a lot more fun with the previous Vs. games. A lot more. Two man tag matches are more fun than three man tag matches.

i guess gamers tend to overrate mostly every game. you know, that are only videogames. no one really needs them to live.

While I won't say it's THE most overrated, it's definately the most overlooked as far as being overrated goes. I'm going to go ahead and say Earthbound, not because it's a bad game, but it shouldn't be the most sought after game for the SNES and command prices around $75-$100 since it isn't THAT rare. I own the game and beaten it a couple of times, and I'm still amazed people consider this their favorite RPG. It's a good game, but nowhere near the amazing level people build it up to be.

If you get flamed here, it's not for expressing your opinion but rather for choosing a controversial and flame bait-y topic like this to go with as your first post here. Also, your opinion is flawed because you can't call a game overrated simply because it resides in a genre that you dislike. Just because you don't like football doesn't mean Madden is overrated and the same goes for FPSs.

The Madden games are one of, if not the, best football simulation games for the past 10 years. It's just a fact. Halo was a pretty groundbreaking FPS 9 years ago and was one of the first games to do FPS co-op really well. Again, as far as FPSs go, Halo (the first one) deserves to be lauded. You wouldn't appreciate that if you're not an FPS fan, and that's fair enough, but then you can't call it overrated.

As for Guitar Hero and Rock Band, they are popular and beloved because you don't have to learn how to play a real guitar, which takes many many many many hours of hard work and practice to do, in order to play along with your favorite songs. That's the appeal and why it's addicting to so many people and again, it's just a fact that the games are well made and fun to play. The fact that you'd rather pluck strings than push buttons doesn't make the games overrated.

As someone who was into FPS games since the days of MIDI Maze and Wolfenstein 3D, I can tell you that Halo is indeed overrated. It was nothing special in any way whatsoever. Compared to other games at the time, the level design, premise, and weapons were incredibly shoddy. Halo is only famous for one reason: it introduced ham-fisted fratboy retards who has long since infected their PCs to the point of unuseable while trying to find free porn to the amazing wonders of LAN gaming on the XBox. Oh boy! LAN gaming! That was fucking fantastic in 1992. But Halo came out in 2001, when people who weren't moronic douchebags were playing FAR SUPERIOR shooting games like Unreal and Counterstrike on computers over the INTERNET. Halo is garbage. People should be ashamed for liking it. Liking Halo is like saying Earthworm Jim 3D is your favorite 3D platformer. You only like it because you haven't played any good games.

Madden is good at what it does. I hate sport games, and I loathe people who own nothing but sports game, but I also known plenty of people who have a copy of the latest Madden on their bookshelf wedged in between BlazBlue and Brutal Legend.

OK, I'm sick of this attitude. I play guitar and bass in real life, and I love Guitar Hero and Rock Band. They're just fun to me, and I don't see why I have to pick one or the other. That, to me, is like saying "Hurhurhur, why play Grand Theft Auto? Just go shoot some people in real life!" OK, maybe that's a little extreme, but you get the idea. Plus, Rock Band introduced me to Coheed and Cambria, and we all know how that turned out.
Rant over.

I think it's hard to call Rock Band/Guitar Hero overrated. No one thinks they're the BEST GAME EVAR, people just think they're fun. I guess the same could be said for Wii Sports. If you don't know anyone who would rank it among their favorite games, it's probably not overrated.

The Legend of Zelda series. I felt that the series recycled a little too much at times. Yes, there were innovations, but none of it ever really grabbed me I guess. The world also felt kind of lifeless to me at times. I guess I'm just not that into you LoZ.

Are you talking $100 for just the game or $100 for the game/box/strategy guide? Most cases the set is needed to command that kind of price.

They've also received lots of criticism over the past couple of years for questionable quality. It also doesn't help that EA has a virtual monopoly over football due to owning exclusive rights to the NFL license. I believe the ESPN games were giving them a run for their money until EA plunked down for the license and effectively killed the series dead.

The latter contributions to the Resident Evil series, especially RE5. The controls are clunky and terrible, but all my friends love it. Whatevs. I'll play L4D instead

if you take your time to get the controls the game is a real nice masacre. resident evil fans may ask themselve: Survival Horror where have you gone? But overall its a good game although in no way perfect entertaining.

Red Dead Redemption

start mission
cutscene of person talking
ride to destination on horse whilst person talks more
ride to destination while shooting things on horse
get to destination
shoot things
mission ends
rinse and repeat for 13 hours

or the alternative

start mission
cutscene of person talking
ride shotgun on carriage to destination whilst person talks more
ride to destination while shooting things from shotgun position
get to destination
shoot things
mission ends
rinse and repeat for 13 hours

That's the whole game apart from some shit round up the herd mission. Only breath of fresh air from this is the strangers missions. Game is riddled with bugs.

I turned on the game once to find myself stuck in the terrain.

Multiplayer was hyped up too much with all that posse crap, i just find it dull.

It's not a bad game but not a brilliant one either. It literally does deserve the title Grand Theft Horse.

Half Life 2 - A mediocre shooter with a boring story that's often said to be one of the best of the genre.

Left 4 Dead series - I like the concept, and there were a few good ideas, but it just didn't pull it off well enough. Especially the online multiplayer.

Modern Warfare series - I actually enjoyed World at War, but I just don't like Modern Warfare. It definitely doesn't deserve the immense praise it receives.

Little Big Planet - Boring platformer that can't keep me interested for more than five minutes.

Any WWE/WWF game made after No Mercy, assuming there are people that like RAW vs. Smackdown.
