I own a few fighting games but I generally suck balls at them.

I'm pretty weird about them in that respect. I like the artstyle and the mechanics so I buy the games but I just can't play them. My head can't get around some of the movesets - like charge characters, I think they are called were you hold back for a few seconds and forward, I never understood how that would work in a fight as you seem to then back into a corner - and the down and up ones just generally involved me jumping.

I liked Tekken as well (talking about SF above) but the move sets are way too big and they are usually fairly complicated and I can't be bothered memorising them all.

Anyway:

SF2: Ken, Bison, Sometimes Sagat.
Tekken: I have a few people that I like to play as: Yoshimitshu, Bryan, Steve, Law

Then i have other games for PS3 like Third Strke, MVC2 and 3 but I just pick whoever lol.

Yeah. Unfortunately, Soulcalibur is dead to me unless they do some massive rebooting.

Having trouble with chars that use charge attacks doesn't really make you bad at fighting games. I have also trouble using them, thought i kinda learned how to play them by playing Chun Li in SF4. Charge attacks are combineable with your block for instance. Enemy attacks, you hold back already because you block, enemy makes an attack that is punishable, just push forward and the 3rd button the move needs and voilá, intstant hit.

In SF4 it is also possible to hit back while crouching and your character won't move back.

Also while your character is getting up there is short time window you can use to charge your attack, make it possible to instantly attack the enemy after getting up with a charge attack.

There are many other tricks and ways to play chargeable characters, these are just a few.

As far as the Street Fighter series goes, Ken > Ryu forever.

Ken is besides Sagat the cheapest character in SF4, at least when amateurs are fighting against each other. That was the reason i picked Ryu over him.

My first real enjoyment of the SF came from SFvXM. I am a beam super guy. I know Ken isn't a beam super guy, but he had a team super with Ryu. And his basic moves were better than Ryu.

But they don't do anything cool though! I like weirder characters.

Lol i've heard that. I heard that when you play online there are like 10 Kens for every other character.

I have SSF4 but i've barely played it. I also have Tekken 6 which has even less playtime.

It used to be like that, now most people main Blanka (who is also pretty cheap) and Sagat. But Ken is also very common.

Soul Calibur series
Astaroth, Maxi, Nightmare(SC2 only)

I know I forgot stuff, and due to the large number of Street Fighter games may have confused a character here or there with their game, particularly in the Capcom vs SNK series where I enjoy the boss characters(Iori, Rugal, Akuma, etc) but am only average at them.

I don't. If they don't have an easily spammable projectile attack, I'm not interested.

Unless it's Street Fighter 4 3D, where every single attack in the game is spammable.

Oh puke. You sound like the worst person ever to play fighting games with. Razz Also, there's a Street Fighter 4 2D?

I'm wondering about gay fighting game characters...I know Ash Crimson from King of Fighters is supposed to be into dudes, but I'd rather bang Ike over him.

I am mediocre at 2D games, so I have to compensate by picking range characters.

SFIV3D is the 3DS edition. It lets you assign any four moves you want to the touch screen. Want to spam Psycho Crusher, or Gouken's Double Hadouken or Seth's Double Sonic Boom? Now you can! It is awesome and not at all broken and stupid.

I suck at fighting games, so I usually just pick at random because it doesn't make much difference to me whether or not I know the moves a character can do.

I do like to use Ness, Marth and Meta-Knight in the Smash Bros games though.

I'm not sure if you are joking or not but it really depends on the SF game itself. Basically both are good, in SF4 Ken is a little quicker and has more range with his Shoryuken but is not as strong as Ryu. But i recommend to pick the character you just seem to like the most, it's not really a question of wich character you should pick if you try to win, it is all about your skill.

I was actually joking, but thanks for the input. I only played SF up through the New Challengers version, which is where (I think) Ryu and Ken started to differentiate from each other.

Oh i get it, you meant the older games were both Ryu and Ken were similar. Yeah that changed a little since the newer games. In SF4 the similaritys between them are only about 40-50%.

In the older SF games I always thought Ken was a little bit faster and weaker than Ryu.

Yeah that is basically how it is. In SF4 Ken has some pretty cheap moves. I saw a guy on youtube that was only spamming one attack of him, the hard punch shoryuken, and was winning many matches. He was really only using this one attack. That was pretty lame.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd pick Ken, as his axe kick and overall speediness make him slightly less boring than Ryu. I do like Ryu in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, though, he can do all sorts of neat stuff in that game.

Ryu in MVC1 was the best. He could turn into Ken or Akuma.

I've been playing Tekken Tag 2 religiously. My preferred team is Lili and Christie.

In never played MVC1 that much, although it's a great game. My favorite SF games are SF:Alpha 3 and SF4. Alpha 3 is probably the best SF game ever made.
