I'm kind of loose on remakes. Yeah, of course I get antsy when I hear about someone remaking a movie I loved, especially when they are changing elements of the plot, theme, etc. (Nightmare on Elm Street remake was guilty of this, as was Friday the 13th).
I just don't want to watch Evil Dead with different actors and a big budget. The first one is a great low budget gore fest, but it lacked the humor of Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. I think any fan of these films would rather have a sequel to Army of Darkness than sit through the exact plot of Evil Dead 1 again, but with added CGI and different actors.
Anyway, here's some shit about it:
"Box Office Mojo has posted that TriStar entertainment has set up an April 12, 2013 release date for the Evil Dead remake. Surprisingly, this makes the movie the first film scheduled to be released in April of that year. What's surprising is that as of now the Halloween weekend in 2013 is unoccupied, though given current trends they could just be trying to avoid the inevitable Paranormal Activity 5 (assuming that Paranormal Activity 4 comes out next year). The project does not yet have any actors attached and the rumors from earlier today say that the movie will shoot in New Zealand, occupying the same forest that Yogi Bear was filmed in.
Spring is an interesting time to release a horror movie, but perhaps not a terrible idea. Though the original Evil Dead is certainly a cult classic, it's a mystery as to whether or not mainstream audiences will react to it (not to mention that Evil Dead fans might be so pissed off by the remake that they don't show up). The only flaw I see in this is that the last Raimi horror film to come out in spring, the underrated Drag Me To Hell, made only $42 million domestically on a $30 million budget (before marketing). Looks like TriStar will have 16 months to convince people that the Evil Dead remake is worth their time."

Looking forward to the high budget tree tentacle rape :O:O:O
Seriously though, isn't the first 10 minutes of Evil Dead 2 already a remake of evil Dead 1? either way, same as all other remakes of stuff I like, I'll force myself to watch it as soon as possible, but I'll be expecting the worst.

its more of a recap of Evil Dead 1. kind of like how Rocky's sequels have the footage of the previous movie @ the start of each movie.

But... it won't be the same without Sam Raimi torturing Bruce Campbell. It just won't.

I was initially against this, however, after seeing and loving Drag Me To Hell I am now on board. I think it will be very different, but good. With no Bruce Campbell, I'm just going to go in looking at this like its a whole different movie.

I'm more concerned about Paranormal Activity 5, how many doors can open on their own before this stops being lucrative?

Drag Me To Hell was horrible. It did have one hysterical moment though.
I wonder if they will leave the tree rape scene intact for the remake. As long as this movie isn't doused in having fucking music play every second --can I enjoy the silence please Hollywood? -- like it's a damn music video I will be okay with this. I don't really remember the humor from the first one that much so focusing on the horror doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Soundtrack will only be acceptable if they start playing some slow R&B (like they play on the Quiet Storm, I'm certain someone here is familiar with that) when the tree rape scene happens.

They could at least remake a movie that is originally bad and make something intersting out of it. That would make sense. But remaking Evil Dead? Come on.

Well the people that make movies possible in the board rooms really don't see a point in funding remakes of unpopular movies.

I Spit on Your Grave and Cleopatra. I can come up with more, give me some time.
Edit: Also, Troll. No, I'm fucking serious, they're remaking Troll.

They are trying to remake troll I doubt it will get off the ground. Also this is Troll the original, not the "sequel" troll 2. The remake is wanting to be made by the original director, the same guy who says that the mere fact that his movie has a character named harry potter means he inspired JK Rowling.
Passion project remakes are one thing. A remake of plan 9 played straight is in the works. This is different however do to the charm of the original. That is different than remaking mommie dearest

They should make great sequels to shit movies. Why not Bio Dome 2 starring Denzel Washington and Viggo Mortensen?

Whoever says Drag Me to Hell was horrible is crazy. As far as dreaded PG-13 horror flicks are concerned, I thought it was pretty stylish and well done.

They're gonna make it more realistic which makes it gross. The tree rape is going to be like Silent Hill's barb wire rape scene. It's unnecessary to convey so much intensity in that scene except to make me disgusted. In Evil Dead it is over quick. I doubt women are going to walk out on this since everyone has been so desensitized by the ever-increasing filth. I am tired of being grossed out. Whether it's the fucking random gay sex in Borat, the diarrhea in BridesMaids, -- enough of it!! Now all the people are self-mutilating their own bodies like they're carving a pumpkin. Ugh. It could be cool but it will most likely be a forgettable goreporn flick with zero camp/humor.

I've read in multiple places that apparently there is little to no CGI in this movie at all, which is very cool and pretty rare these days. Though it could just a buzz phrase to bring back fans of the original. We'll see. Bruce Campbell is fully endorsing and behind the remake, so that's a plus but he's also poised to make money so..again, we'll see.

I hope there is Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it. Even if the movie fails then it would be worth watching.
