Wow. What an idiot. "It's the NES-001!" Dude, that's the model number of the NES. Of -every- old-style NES.
I'm a little surprised the shopkeeper didn't know that power cords are very easy to replace. I got one at Radio Shack.
Also, for double hilarity, I think the game he found was Gyromite.
Yeah I saw this a while ago and laughed. There is no way an NES is going for 13k used. I don't think the issue was the power cord though, it probably was that the machine actually wasn't powering up when plugged in. Finding something like that in a storage room in California where it likely got exposed to humidity and whatnot it really is no surprise it wouldn't be working.

Apparently, the media hype of the $13,000 Nintendo unit forgot to explain that the unit was sold with other games, including a fully boxed Stadium Events cartridge, which it appears that one's a truly rare item and thus the one thing collectors were really aiming for:

Taking the episode at face value, it was just the one guy who misvalued the item. He just probably saw "NES" and "$13,000" in a news article somewhere. And a lot of guys love to pretend to know more than they really do...
I had never seen that guy on the show before, so I was already wondering about his knowledge level. Right before he found the NES, he said "This is why I buy storage units, because you never know what you'll find," as he was opening a briefcase, which turned out to be...full of papers.

Because you know, a briefcase full of money is a lot more common then a briefcase full of briefs...
If I want to watch a storage show, I'd watch the one on Spike TV with the fat guy that loves guns and the skinny dude that says wow every five minutes.
