Reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Technically I'm supposed to be reading poetry for class but poetry kinda blows, so I'm reading something interesting instead. I'm enjoying it so far, but since I just watched the movie I spend some of my time thinking "Movie changed that. Bastards."

Poetry just doesn't interest me. Poets try to be all flowery and use big words to make themselves seem like they are these super geniuses. Poetry kind of reminds me of ambiguous Facebook posts. Try to make yourself seem deep and mysterious while everyone else is reading it thinking, "I wish this dickhead would fucking say what he means or cut the shit."

eh, i disagree, mostly cuz you are using a blanket argument. obviously, not all poetry is the same, but if its not your thing, then its not your thing

1811 Dictionary in the Vulgar Tongue, by Francis Grose. By means of Project Gutenberg
http://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/5402/pg5402.html
If you're curious, it contains such terms as:
BALUM RANCUM. A hop or dance, where the women are all prostitutes. N. B. The company dance in their birthday suits
CLOTH MARKET. He is just come from the cloth market, i.e. from between the sheets, he is just risen from bed.
HOB OR NOB. Will you hob or nob with me? a question formerly in fashion at polite tables, signifying a request or challenge to drink a glass of wine with the proposer: if the party challenged answered Nob, they were to chuse whether white or red. This foolish custom is said to have originated in the days of good queen Bess, thus: when great chimnies were in fashion, there was at each corner of the hearth, or grate, a small elevated projection, called the hob; and behind it a seat. In winter time the beer was placed on the hob to warm: and the cold beer was set on a small table, said to have been called the nob; so that the question, Will you have hob or nob? seems only to have meant, Will you have warm or cold beer? i.e. beer from the hob, or beer from the nob.
and
ODDS PLUT AND HER NAILS. A Welch oath, frequently mentioned in a jocular manner by persons, it is hoped, ignorant of its meaning; which is, By God's blood, and the nails with which he was nailed to the cross.

Right now I'm slowly going through Danielewski's House of Leaves. I'm really, really enjoying it, but where the fuck is footnote 142?

I just finished Something Wicked This Way Comes for class. Didn't care much for it but I've never really been a fan of Bradbury's writing style.

Almost done with Crossroads of Twilight, the tenth book of The Wheel of Time series. Which means I only have I think three books left. Which probably translates into roughly 4,000 pages...

The funny thing is, I've almost lapped my roommate in reading this series and he started reading them years ago whereas I've made it through ten of them in about two years.

Lately I've been buying any good-condition Ravenloft books I find in secondhand stores. I read them all in high school and wanted to go through them again. I'm currently reading Mordenheim and am finding myself kind of annoyed at the author/editors. I don't mind that the characters have German sounding names, that precedent was set with Von Zarovich. What I do mind is the use of the German language in a fictional D&D world. The title character's home is called Schloss Mordenheim. (Which is German for castle). Also, the main character proclaims that monster he builds will be stronger than Hercules and faster than Hermes, Greek gods that aren't even part of the D&D deities.
Silly griping, I know, but just wanted to share.

Just read Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars. It was a lot more enjoyable than I figured it would be; a real page-turner. A nice, fast read. Now on to the sequels.
...and I'm wondering just how badly Disney botched the movie. Anybody watch it?

Heidelin's Stranger in a Strange Land. Possibly the best science fiction book I've read so far... but I have yet to finish the Space Odyssey series. Can't wait to find the last two.

Pretty sure you mean Heinlein, not Heidelin. Excellent book.

Hmmm... I guess you missed Ender's Game somewhere along the line. Still an excellent book though.
