So my gaydar finally brought me to this thread.

It would be contradictory for me to ask as to why grown men watch this show as it's for children. Hell i still watch a lot of the shows i watched as a kid.

HOWEVER none of these shows are aimed at a female audience. The fact is that the franchise of my little pony was developed for females.

At the creation of the fucking franchise whoever dreamed it up did not sit and go (as they where colouring a pink fucking pony) "HMM I WONDER WHO MY TARGET AUDIENCE IS?"

However people can watch it if they want, it's difficult to explain why i disapprove of people watching it. Like i literally just said, people can watch it if they want so what i think doesn't really matter.

The fact that it's a show for girls has something to do with it but it's something else.

It just conjures up the idea of a spotty, unclean male who is playing with his "My Little Pony figurine", combing it's stupid hair with a My Little Pony (TM) hair brush and placing it onto his shelf and getting his mother to tuck him under his Pony duvet and kissing him goodnight. AGE TWENTY FIVE.

and then i realise, wow that is fucking pathetic. There's a time when people grow out of these things and like i said it's contradictory as i watch cartoons and shit but still. There's a difference between watching cartoons and being obsessed with a little girls tv show.

I guess it's a problem up until a certain age. I just have the image of a basement dwelling figure who just sits in permanent darkness in front of their computer posting fucking pony image macros and probably jerking off.

Obviously this is an extreme minority who are like that (and i extremely doubt that is anyone here) but still that's the image which sticks with me and that is why i will not touch the show with a twenty foot pole and when i see people posting about it online that is what i imagine they are like, irrespective if you are not like that at all.

E.g. this guy:
Image
YOU ARE TOO OLD FOR A LITTLE GIRLS SHOW.

and i kid you fucking not.

Google image search: My Little Pony fan. He is the first fucking one. Not even a little girl, THIS MAN.

Quote:
Each day, out-of-work computer programmer Luke Allen self-medicates by watching animated ponies have magical adventures.

The 32-year-old, who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, loves his daily fix of My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, and he’s not alone. He’s part of a growing group of “bronies” (“bro ponies”) — men who are fans of a TV show largely intended for a much younger audience.

“First we can’t believe this show is so good, then we can’t believe we’ve become fans for life, then we can’t believe we’re walking down the pink aisle at Toys R Us or asking for the girl’s toy in our Happy Meal,” Allen said in an e-mail to Wired.com. “Then we can’t believe our friends haven’t seen it yet, then we can’t believe they’re becoming bronies too.”

THIRTY FUCKING TWO (cereal falls out of mouth).

Wow, I wasn't expecting that response. I just wanted to know if he was born in 1979 or 1980. That's all. I asked if you knew and, if you didn't, all you had to say was "no".

The most shocking part is that he's 32. Damn, aging has not been kind to that guy.

And then he made a fourth:

For anyone interested, both seasons of the show are now available on Netflix.

Kinda annoyed for that fact, not because of MLP being in Netflix, but rather because that was almost immediately, when other shows takes weeks to MONTHS to get updated... -_-

I, myself, am annoyed because I'm still yet to see anything of Season 2 up here aside from the odd online clip or still.

EDIT: As of tonight, scratch that. I caught the encore broadcast of The Return Of Harmony, Part 1 a little while ago. I was aware of the Canadian TV premiere three hours prior, but I waited for the encore so I could watch another show, of which I only caught most, thanks to my brother, who needed my help.

One thing that's amusing is that John de Lancie (Q from Star Trek:TNG) has taken a fascination in the Bronies and he wants to do a documentary on them. And no, for those out of the loop he's not making fun of them. de Lancie has a very positive view of the Bronies actually and he wants the documentary to be about that.

Rather than waste time writing about it, here's videos of de Lancie explaining why's he doing this, and why he's so involved with the Bronies:

Here de Lancie tells Trekkies that they should embrace the Bronies:

And here's a pretty long interview that sheds even more light on the subject:

I knew about the Kickstarter documentary, but not that he'd told the Trekkies/Trekkers to embrace this fandom.

If it's any consolation, I'd take bronies over trekies any day.

The intro alone is worth watching, even if you don't care much for the show.

I lost a bet to my sister and had to watch an episode of this. The plot was that some princess who was previously evil wanted to be everyone's friend, but it was We Shan't Dare Offend Non-Christians By Actually Calling This Halloween, so everyone was afraid of her regardless of how nice she tried to be.

I don't see what's so great about this bullshit. The animation is decidedly better than once-beloved cartoons that have not stood the test of time, e.g. G1 Transformers, but the voice acting and writing are not any better. It's the same predictable, tired tropes that have been around since our parents were kids.

Well, from I gather, it's the same predictable, tired tropes that have been around since our parents were kids, but infused with fan material (read: internet memes).
