Has anyone else read this? I'm not a huge fan of Stephen King, some of his stuff is good, but The Running Man was awesome. I've always enjoyed the movie in that cheezy sort of way, but the story was soooo much better. I won't spoil the end of it for anyone, but I actually laughed out loud when I read the last scene.

I haven't read anything else from the Bachman Books yet. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Getting the Bachman Books collection, if you can, is definitely worth it. I think that you'd get about the same reaction from Road Work as you did the Running Man, and the Long Walk is great too. I happen to be lucky enough to have a copy that includes The Rage, which has since been removed from the collection (I think it was replaced by Blaze or Thinner for some) because of that high-school shooting bullshit.

Thanks. I'll start those this weekend. I just can't get over how bad ass Ben Richards was in that story. He would have totally destroyed Arnold.

Yeah, the movie was really a piss-poor re-imagining of the story. He was so much more of a badass in the story.

The movie is barely like the book. The book concept is so much more interesting to me since it's the entire country out for him, rather some shitty American Gladiator-types.

And yes, read the other Bachman books. I don't think they are in the upper tier of King's work, but they are still very solid reads.

Rage is EXCELLENT. The Long Walk makes you think a lot.

The Bachman Books are frigging Amazing. The Long Walk is easily my favorite of the bunch, but I love Rage too. Running Man and Road Work never did much for me (except the absolutely apoplectic rage I felt when that motherfucking host started slandering Ben's wife and family. Such a gut wrenching and effective scene.)
