Long story short, apparently double spacing to begin a new sentence is the wrong way as far as typegraphers, extending to every style guide, are concerned. And all this time my keyboarding class was teaching me to double space.

Mother fucker!!!

This is going to be more difficult to switch than going to the metric system. <-- FUCK!!! I did it again. Well, I hope that teachers are fixing how they explain typing for future generations, because I know that I am doomed.

The only time I have ever double spaced after a period was in a stupid keyboarding class. It looks horrible when you print it out and wastes paper. In fact the only use I could see for it would be to meet a page minimum on a paper you just couldn't get two more lines into any other way.

I am not going to disagree that once in a while an extra space will cause a maximized line to break and a new line will form. This is extremely rare though, and when it does happen it is typical that one of the following lines has enough space to absorb the dropped words.

While this is certainly not a perfect test, it does show that the space added by double spacing after periods is insignificant.

You can see that the final page has the same number of lines. Also, there is no increase in the amount of ink to print because spaces are blank.

Double spacing is a conspiracy cooked up by the paper industry to get you to consume more paper!

Double spacing just looks nicer. If they got to single spacing, everything's going to look like a Cormac McCarthy novel, and I don't want to live in that world.
