Well I root for the USA of course. But given their usual performance, I go with my European (and far, far better at footballing) heritage.
HUP HOLLAND HUP!!!
I was lucky enough to live in the Netherlands for a year when I was a kid, watched the 1994 World Cup from there. Quite an awesome experience. Its like Super Sunday, except it lasts for weeks!

I'm interested enough to check out the winners and such, not so much to watch random games....if I catch Team USA, I'll watch a bit. Can you believe that handball that cost the Irish a spot? That really sucks for them.

it really was some BS. too bad that FIFA didnt allow them to join the tourney along w/costa rica.
EDIT: and SA is 9 hours ahead, so the games will be on at ungodly times, again

When I first moved to England, I tried to get into the 2006 World Cup because it's such a big deal here, but quickly found many flaws with the sport and how it's run that it very quickly turned me off. There seems to be a whole hell of a lot of cheating, bending of the rules, and pussies just flopping all over the field like babies that really ruin the integrity of the game for me.
Also, the way they keep the time pisses me off because it seems so arbitrary as to when they call the game officially finished during "extra time". Why can't they just stop the clock and restart it whenever there is a stoppage of play? It'd be a lot more accurate that way, and then you don't get referees having to randomly decide when the game is over.

I really hope Brazil gets another humiliating defeat in this World Cup.
I mean, their egos get boasted way to much. I don't think they speak about 'a question of national pride' in the USA around the World Cup time, for example.
Oh yes, this year I'm rooting for Spain. THE FURY! RAWR!

They're absolute candidates for the title this year and deserved to win it before.
And oh yeah, USA gave a big pain in the ass at this year's Confederations Cup. Sure, they lost, but they went into halftime with a 2-0 score to their favor.

I'm already excited about the world cup and ready to support Spain all the way, they're playing the best football today and I'd really love a new champion!

so far USA is paired w/England and Mexico is paired w/South Africa
Brazil actually got a real tough draw, with Portugal and Ivory Coast in the same group.
It pisses me off that France somehow got a favorable draw after they shouldn't even be in the damn thing in the first place.
My predictions (by group):
A1: Mexico
A2: France
B1: Argentina
B2: Greece
C1: England
C2: USA
D1: Germany
D2: Serbia
E1: Netherlands
E2: Cameroon
F1: Italy
F2: Paraguay (hey, SOMEONE'S gotta make it in that group)
G1: Portugal
G2: Brazil
H1: Spain
H2: Chile

Oh that'll be interesting when they play each other in our household. My British wife and I will have to decide beforehand who to root for so we don't end up killing each other.

Terry Stripped of England captaincy
Showdown talks between England manager Fabio Capello and John Terry, over his alleged affair with a team mates former wife, lasted all of 12 minutes today, culminating in the player being stripped of the England captaincy.
In a statement, Capello said "After much thought I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry," he went on to say "What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice."
Terry himself issued a short statement, which read "I fully respect Fabio Capello's decision... I will continue to give everything for England."
I'm rooting for Spain all the way, hopefully a final against England. I'd love Argentina to win, but I seriously doubt they will.
Good to know there's other World Cup fans! To me, the World Cup makes 2010 so much better that the past three.

I vote that this becomes Sam's Army's chant during games:
I love that video. GO USA!
Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.
really?!? italy tied and i missed that game?!? sigh. stupid work schedule

North Korea will get assraped tomorrow.
And the players will be assraped by Kim Jong-Il himself back at home for that.

I take back my words of that post I made.
I tip my hat to North Korea. They showed the world the human side of the country, and stood tall against Brazil. They lost, but they scored a very deserved goal that showed North Korea is a team not to be looked down. And seeing the freaking best player of the team cry during the anthem, despite being told not to, is already an image I'll carry within my mind forever. THAT'S what soccer is about.
Also, any team that makes Brazil look like shit despite the victory has my total support.
