I was discussing the Venture Bros with a friend of mine, when he told me that what I believed to be the first episode (the one with the UN and the Ooh ray) is actually "episode zero", and that Dia De Los Dangerous is the "real" first episode.

He said that the first episode, or at least, what I thought was the first one, never actually aired on cartoon network or adult swim, and only Dia De Los Dangerous did.

Basically he's saying the the episode with the ooh ray is actually not even in the first season.

What the hell?

That's a goddam lie. The UN episodedid air on Cartoon Network. It aired on Adult Swim, at least one full year before the series started. I actually haven't watched that episode since I first saw it that one time. I remember massively hating it and wondering why the fuck they were wasting my time with it.

And then later when the actual series started, I loved it. I'll have to rewatch the pilot and see if it's as awful as I remember it or if I was just in a bad mood. I'm sure at least some of my dislike for it had to do with the fact that the characters weren't particularly well-developed in it and I had no emotional investment in them at that point.

It suffered from bad Flash-like animation, little to no attatchment to the characters and inferior writing relative to the other episodes.

It's not terrible, it just isn't nearly as good as the rest.

This happens a lot with Adult Swim stuff. They'll air a pilot, possibly even unannounced, and depending on how it does, the series will get picked up. The Venture Brothers pilot unfortunately isn't on the DVD though, whereas I believe the pilot versoin of Rabbot (Aqua Teen Hunger Force) is. Unfortunately, the pitch version (not pilot) of Sealab 2021 is on those DVD's, and it's awful.

I seem to recall the UN episode of Venture Brothers using the joke "Who built this place? Frank Lloyd Wrong?" which is an incredibly lame joke and I believe it may have even been already used on Sealab too.

The pilot episode is on there, it's on the second disk as a special feature.

Is the joke supposed to make sense because I really
don't understand it, nor do I know what it could refer to.

Edit: Shit, I forgot to look at the date. Sorry for bumping. It was still on page 1
