This question is more directed at Jeebus than anyone else, but feel free to answer. After keeping an eye on the spoilers, ( http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=177636 ) , is it just me or are vampires way too over powered in this set? Especially Vampire Nighthawk & Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet?

Kalitas is a 7 mana legend, which means it can do whatever it wants. Vampire Nighthawk is definitely very strong, but I would go so far as to say overpowered. It does strike me as being strong enough to be constructed playable, but we'll have to see.

I think Nighthawk is overpowered for the cost.
How many other creatures are 3 mana cost, have three quality abilities, and is also a 2/3 creature? I wouldn't have so much beef with it, if it had all those abilities, the same cost, but was only a 1/1.
Not to mention if you pair it with a Vampire Nocturnus (Which is what it seems to be perfectly tailered for), suddenly you have a Flying 4/4, Deathtouch, Lifelinker.

Great Sable Stag has a 3 mana cost, has 3 quality abilities, and is a 3/3 creature...
I'd be more worried about the double striking Goblin Lackey or the new Force of Will that stops storm cards.

Yeah, Goblin Super-Lackey seems more scary than anything I've seen. I commented in the chat the Vampire Legend seems more like it should be in Homelands than anywhere else...super-flavor, pretty unplayable.
Chandra Ablaze is pretty holy shit...

This rumour started last night and has now been confirmed thanks to international prereleases:
We don't know the rarity of this yet, but in some packs of Zendikar the basic land will be replaced with a card from the reserved list (These cards are not reprints, they are old copies that were inserted into the print run and are not in pack fresh condition). Cards that have been opened so far:
dual lands, mox diamond, mox jet, ancestral recall, lich, lion's eye diamond, and some others.
Oh, and if you open one of those in a sealed deck they aren't legal in that tournament.

Are you serious?
Great... And, you thought M10 packs were hard to keep in stock and find...

For real. We ordered 3 more cases of Zendikar this morning to make sure we get stuff from the first shipment. Boxes are already minimum $120 on ebay, so this set is crazy.
And yeah, dead serious. So far the WORST old card someone has opened was Lich. There have now been sightings of The Abyss, Sinkhole, and Mox Pearl as well as more dual lands (Dunno what edition). It has now been confirmed that, while the distribution is random, it will work out that there will be aproximately 1 old card per 20 boxes, which is actually really good odds. Also, there has been at least one box found to have 2 old cards in it.

Just as an update: Should've mentioned in the last post, but the inclusion of Sinkhole shows that the cards do NOT need to be on the reserved list. The only qualification is that the cards are old and awesome. I'd hate to have to open a pack with a foil fetch land and a Beta Chaos Orb in the same pack! What to choose!

I guess that's a sneaky way around the reprint policy.

Very much really. The question is: is "priceless treasure" a block theme or just for Zendikar? Will we see legacy staples in Worldwake and foil extended stapes in Prosper?

That's so gonna drive pack sales.
I think the most amazing thing is how they managed to keep this a secret until the prerelease.
Again, these are actual cards they managed to get a hold of printed way back then, right? So they're not mint?

That's retarded. I'd love to open something crazy, but this pretty much ensures I'll never even see Zendikar packs in the wild and probably have to pay a huge mark up for them in hobby shops. Gay.

I think I'll have Asmodeous hook me up. He moved to Alaska and says that there is a card shop near him that has shitloads of Magic.
While the shops near me were sold out of M10 and were selling Devine-Demon Duel sets for $40, he said they had piles of M10 booster boxes, and a stack of the Duel sets still going for $20.
I think I need to wire him a few hundred to send me some booster boxes of Zen.

Wizards was actually able to keep this secret until the prerelease. Wizards was also sold out of Zendikar 3 weeks before the prerelease and boxes were already $110 online WITHOUT this information. The set is selling itself, this is just a bonus.
Also, if you can get a working car or if the roomies wanna come down, we'll be damned sure to keep it in stock for drafts and to have packs out there. Afterall, did we ever let you down with M10? And we weren't even prepared for that one! We doubled our initial order this time around.

No, it is not. In draft/sealed, the Nighthawk sucks. Why? Because landfall is RETARDEDLY powerful in draft/sealed. Nighthawk ends up being a chump blocker so you don't get stomped to death by flying eels.
Between traps and landfall, this set is massively unfun for draft/sealed. MASSIVELY. They really needed to put Pyroclasm in this set.

You've done a single sealed event with what you said you felt was a mediocre card pool. Let's not make blanket statements about the entire format based on that yet.

We now know 61 of the 90ish different cards. While most of them are awesome, you can pull a total piece of shit like Hecatomb.*.
*Note: I love Hecatomb, but it's worth like 50 cents so I'd be pissed if that was my "priceless treasure".

I don't need a good card pool to see how unbalanced the set is for sealed/draft. Here's how it works:
Whoever gets the highest number of good landfall cards wins, unless they start missing land drops.

Wait, so what you guys are saying is that in sealed deck whoever gets the best sealed pool wins? That's true in every set. In M10 whoever gets more removal and bomb flyers wins.

In M10, there are a multitude of ways to win. You can go B/G and win without ever playing Windstorm, much less a single flyer.
Zendikar is entirely centered around Landfall. If you don't have good Landfall cards, you will not win.
