I just finished reading The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide, which is a collection of all five books of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, written by Douglas Adams. I am now reading Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett.

Star Wars: Survivor's Quest, by Timothy Zahn. It's actually pretty good for a Star Wars book. And I know Zahn is a great writer and all, but sometimes his stuff is a little dry for my tastes, but this one is interesting. It's about the Chiss (Thrawn's species) contact Luke Skywalker with information that Outbound Flight, a massive ship launched pretty much right before the fall of the Republic as an exo-galactic exploratory and colonizing vessel, has been found. The first half is sort of a mystery story in space as three or four factions supposedly acting as allies aboard a relatively small Chiss diplomatic ship face constant instances of obvious sabotage as they travel to the planet Outbound Flight crashed on. The second half is about them exploring the ship in search of the truth of what happened to it and finding a colony of survivor descendants living within it still.

It ties into an earlier book, Outbound Flight that is also by Zahn and tells the story of what actually happened when the ship reached the edge of the known galaxy. I've read it, but awhile ago so I don't remember all the details that overlap with Survivor's Quest.

That was a good book. Zahn's books are pretty much the only EU stuff I keep with, except for things I get from Wookieepedia.

I read this book a couple of months ago but I never read Outbound Flight. Wasn't there speculation at the end of this book that Thrawn might still be alive? Did they ever clear that up in another book? Thrawn was always one of my favorite characters. Overall I liked this book though.

I dunno, I haven't gotten to the end of this one. I know there was some plot where there was a double of him out there, but I don't remember if it was before or after this.

Hey Blackout, if I wanted to start reading some Battletech novels, what would be the first one you recommend I start with? I played Earthsiege the other day and I got the itch for some giant mech action.

Wow SUPER DELAY!

Uh here's the list of novel order. The smiley faces after the titles are my opinion of the book's merits. REPRINTS ARE CHEAPER AND MORE PLENTIFUL ON EBAY. DO NOT READ OUT OF ORDER unless you like confusion. this shit has been out of print for years even the new stuff, don't bother going to a book store like Borders or Barnes & Nobles if you are interested in finding this, BT is clearly used market only at this point, which makes me a sad panda. All in all there are some good ones, some meh ones, and some BLECH ones, but they all fit together like a puzzle pretty well. Not the best writing though, it's pulpy sci fi to the max, so if you're for example a Larry Niven or an Isaac Asimov fan you will probably HATE Battlech fiction.

If you'd like to do some more research I'd recommend this http://www.sarna.net/wiki/List_of_BattleTech_novels, and don't forget that there is new fiction out there, Battlecorps sells a subscription service for short stories that pretty much kept the fluff side of the universe alive, http://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleCorps if you want to read about the new website, http://www.battlecorps.com/BC2/index.html is the home for new fiction, they even put out two print amnibus novels http://www.sarna.net/wiki/The_Corps and http://www.amazon.com/BattleCorps-Anthology-Strike-Battletech-Unnumbered/dp/1934857815/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1315040202&sr=1-1

New novels are on super hiatus until the insanely complicated rights situation gets figured out but if you're interested I'd suggest you hang with Catalyst and Topps, they've done a a lot to keep the shit boat of copyright quagmire afloat where multiple companies have failed in the past. Hell they've done better than the last three copyright holders in my opinion.

The Dragonlance novels are one of my favorite series, next to Icewind Dale.

On another note, I recently read Free Radical by Shamus Young and loved it. Can anyone point me in the direction of more good cyberpunk lit?

Casca: The Eternal Mercenary by Barry Sadler. It's about the Roman soldier that pierced Jesus with his spear on Golgotha, and was cursed by Jesus to wander forever as a mercenary until they meet again.

Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson and Neuromancer by William Gibson. Definitely two of the best ones out there for the cyberpunk genre in my opinion.

Just started reading Lord of Chaos, book six of Wheel of Time. It's been awhile since I read the last one and I was starting to get bored of the series then but it's been awhile and this book was like four bucks so I said what the hey.

I just started reading The Sword of Shannara after getting on a fantasy kick. I was reading the Redwall series for a while but all the books at the library are printed in different times and it's a bit tough to decide which one to read next.

Book: The Prince- I wonder how dumb people are to think Machiavelli was being serious with this story. It's a bit dry in parts, but pretty funny when you read up on Renaissance history and who he was criticizing.
Graphic Novel: The Boys, book #8. After meandering around a lot with a ton of fanservice, the past two books have been very enjoyable. Much better pacing and character development. Starlight and Hughie are one of the few times I've seen couples represented well in comics, though I'm still wondering what Ennis is trying to do with the whole Black Noir rape scene from Herogasm.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I just finished reading Kim by Rudyard Kippling. I had forgotten about it after breaking at the halfway point. Embarrassed It was really good. If British spies, Tibetan Lamas and the cultures of late-1800s India interest you at all I really recommend it. Very Happy

I've also read the first three books in Timothy Zahn's Quadrail Series, need to pick up the fourth soon. Easy reads, lots of sci-fi/detective tropes, but damned if I wasn't entertained enough to keep reading "just one more chapter." Smile

I read I Am Legend a few days back in about 4 or so hours. I really enjoyed it and it was pretty different from the movie. It was a pretty short book so it might be one of those novels you pick up before a plane trip or something because you could easily finish it on the way there and back.
