*Nerd twitch* THIRD Earth. It's THIRD Earth!
That trailer, though = mind blown. The original will always have a very special place in my heart, but this looks absolutely fantastic. Can't wait!

In my defense, I was still thinking within the series. I was telling a friend about the "later" Thundercats (Lynxo, Pumira, and Bengali) who helped the Thundercats develop "New Thundara" and I guess I merged it with "Third Earth."

^ Ah yes, they were indeed.
Speaking of whom, the WonderCon panel re: the new TC series mentioned that the new Cats would be showing up at some point. Also, to my giant grin, that they'd be doing a recreation of the famous "Trials of Lion-O" storyline. YAY.
I'm not looking forward to Bengali's redesign though. He was easily the best looking Cat of them all, and I don't think any sort of change they could make would be an improvement.

Did anyone see the premiere? More importantly, anyone know how I can see it? I didn't get home in time. It doesn't seem to be rerunning. |
Have not watched it yet, but it's recorded on the DVR. Besides "certain methods" I don't know how you'll be able to see it.

The premiere was AWESOME! It was true enough to the original to make me nostalgic but new enough to be exciting and unique. Definitely a well done remake, here's hoping they maintain this level of quality.

Just watched it (thanks, Internet ). I really liked it. Hope it keeps the quality up.
Although, I couldn't stop hearing the characters as Terry McGinnis (Lion-O) and Lex Luthor (Grune).

It's a minor point, but I love that they threw in Lynxo. I'm expecting Pumyra and Bengali to show up at some point down the line.
Also, this Snarf is a lot better.

YES. I marked out like an idiot for Lynxo. I agree on Snarf too.
The one character whose change I'm not happy with is Tygra. In the original, he was the elder, wise one who guided Lion-O along the path to growing up. Of course, maybe his character development will allow him to reach that point now that everything's gone to hell.
Best part though? Easily having Larry Kenny as Claudus. AWE. SOME. I'm also very interested in the relationship between the Cats and the rest of the Third Earth animals...it should be fun to see how this plays out, now that the Cats are no longer purely the victims of Mutant evil. And the Magic vs. Tech theme? Genius.
Overall, this was a complete and total win. It will never replace the original in my heart of course, but I like this new, slightly more complex version.
OH! Other mark out moment: Lion-O extending the Sword of Omens using the exact same motions as the original! Beautiful touch. I can't wait for more.

It was even better when Mumm-Ra tried to do his transformation sequence, forgetting about sunlight and thus denying us big Mumm-Ra in the season intro.
I like that they give a plausible reason for why he hates the cats; the Eye of Thundara was his (probably can't rest until he reclaims it too).

Am I the only one who watched it, tried to enjoy it but ultimately felt they are too old to enjoy this kind of thing anymore?

So I was watching a vlog by an artist I dig and he brought up an interesting parallel betwen Lion-O and a Disney princess, specifically Ariel:
* Red hair
* Believes there's more out there in the world for them to see.
* Believes everyone has goodness within them
* Fascinated with artifacts (human castoffs/Technology)
* Defiant of their royal father.
For those that didn't catch the normal airdate, it will play Fridays at 8:30 p.m.

Holy shit. I just heard a direct Herman Melville quote in a ThunderCats cartoon. My mind is officially, and awesomely, blown.

I must confess I've never read it, but I'm guessing it was that "For hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee!" bit by the captain?
Either my DV-R didn't record the ep or one of my housemates deleted it after watching it. Having seen the episode, I'm more curious if there's some point where the Thundercats race loses their tails come adulthood as only the kittens have theirs. I'm also impressed that Lion-O was able to perfectly carve the symbol with a sword.

That was it indeed. Ahabs last curse to Moby Dick before getting pulled under.
I feel like all the cats are different races kinda, which would explain their different looks.
As for the symbol, I didn't even think about it. The whole scene gave me chills, as did the new opening theme. (I wish the song was longer though.)

I am excited for when they find Panthro and he joins up with the group, I like the new Snarf but I miss in a twisted way his ability to speak and mothering of Lion-O. Also, I think Wily Kit and Wily Kat are WAAAAYYY better then the originals. I am also interested in seeing what the new thundertank will look like.

* Come to think of it, I'd love to see a body for Lion-O's mother or at least an acknowledgement of her. Otherwise he's got yet another strike against him if her were a Disney lead.
* I'll say it again. I vastly prefer this Snarf to the original.
* I've played enough D&D that I just see the kittens as halflings with tails.
