A lot better comparison than the Link to the Past one!

I think he means "A better commentary than the Link to the Past one". Although I loved that article.

I liked it, really funny, made me laugh, but it also made me feel terrible. It couldn't have been any more chilling unless you had added that just like in Pac-Man, you'll die alone. Crying

Damn it, Syd! I have a pitch with Beacon Pictures in less than 12 hours and you totally succeeded in psyching me out! If I lose my multi-million dollar contract because of this, I will dedicate my life to making my misery your own... Of course, since you wrote this article, I probably won't have to do much. Wowwwwww. That was dark, man. And yet, extraordinarily clever and a great read. Color me impressed; a lot of thought must have gone into that.

But for now, I'm gonna go cry in that corner... Crying

Very very cynical. Kind of Absurdist, if you will.

But i still enjoyed it.

Top notch. The sims rant in the begining is almost word for word what I've been using for years to warn people away from sims games. Mad
If Pac Man equals life and eventual death, do those shitty Super Nintendo Pac Man games represent eternal hell? Confused

I came up with the idea maybe three or four days before my birthday. The original plan was to have it up *on* my birthday, but that didn't happen.

That's pretty much exactly what I was going for. Thanks!

Yeah, it did take awhile to fully flesh out the idea. It started off basically with "Wouldn't it be funny if Pac-Man was meant as a social commentary?" and a couple of vague ideas, then I realized I could probably make it work. The problem I have is that I never feel like I have enough material and then I start reaching. I had like 4 or 5 other "lessons" I didn't use in the Link To Love article because they were becoming increasing obtuse. The whole "keys = success" thing in Pac-Man felt like a reach at first, but I think it ended up working pretty well, especially with the chart.

Poor autistic kids...

Nihilism and Determinism are the two extreme sides to the philosophical certainty debate. Yet to me the both are petty much the same thing.

Nihilism: There is no point. Because no point exists.
Determinism: There is no point. Because it was already determined for you.

While they arrive at the same conclusion via very distinct paths, who cares if it is the same destination on a road from nowhere to nothing.

I tend to think that Pac-Man is on a different mission. He is on a mission to grow hair. All the little dots he eats are actually rogaine pills and he needs to eat all of them. What he wasn't told is that after 7 years or so no pills will help male pattern baldness.

Embrace your dome little face of joy. You don' need the pills to be suave, though perhaps at your age some Viagra might help.

By the way, Slash did die from heroin, then came back to life and did more. Then he went into a coma. Then he woke up and did more. He has been clean for about a year. But he doesn't play Pac-Man. At least I doubt he does.

Slash very well may play Pac-Man. He is known to be an avid pinball enthusiast, and was the driving force behind the existence of the GN'R pinball machine. So it's not unreasonable that he plays video games as well. Or did, anyway.

I would say that his involvement in Guitar Hero shows that he is willing to accept games as a part of reality.

I am actually willing to bet that he has played Pac-Man, but I doubt that it is an obsession of any kind. In fact, I could picture him just walking away after beating the first level and seeing the second was the same thing.

Don't be silly. Go read the dude's book. You'll understand why he doesn't care too much about the money.

Yes...and moreso it represents the temptation of sin itself...like in Pac-Man 2, where you end up having SO MUCH FUN torturing Pac instead of trying to beat the game.

Furthermore, attempting slavery is a good way to get yourself shot in the face. Repeatedly. As a result, the international scoreboard maintained by Twin Galaxies does not recognize high scores obtained via slavery. Famed gamer Billy Mitchell has heavily criticized this decision.

But did he say it to you personally, or did he just send a videotape? (can you tell I watched King of Kong not too long ago?)
