This is a thread to reveal music you have played succesfully at parties (i.e. house parties). You may also list albums or tracks you haven't played but think would be appreciable to a party.

I have put on two rap albums that went over well:
Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep - http://www.discogs.com/Gravediggaz-6-Feet-Deep/master/70050

Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo - http://www.discogs.com/Spank-Rock-YoYoYoYoYo/master/123513

Seriously, Gravediggaz? I love Gravediggaz, but I'm surprised it makes good party music, considering they're a Horrorcore group.

I often played the music on partys, so listing songs people did like at them would take forever.

This is good party song for instance:

it was the best of times
it was the blurst of times

I enjoy music like Scott Walker's albums The Drift, Duck Stab by The Residents and anything by Bat for Lashes. Those are all fun artists that really help me get into the party spirit.

I think it really depends on the party. Around here we generally do small group stuff and we just stick with stuff that has been played to death and can be tuned out and socialized over mixed with some new stuff that we are all listening to. Like for New Year's we had a lot of stuff off P!nk's new album and Fun.'s somewhat recent album but also older, well known stuff like Ride Wit Me, Country Grammar, some GnR, some AC/DC, etc.

Then again we aren't really big on cranking the music and having it drown out conversations because we mostly use the parties to catch up with our far flung friends who came into town just for the thing. Mostly our music is just for ambiance and the occasional group break into song moment.

If we are planning to do loud music we have a great gay bar that we go to and another bar where all the 20-something hipsters hang out that has free popcorn and a blue drink that comes in $5 pitchers called Fred, which is really the only reason we go there since none of us really fits in with the crowd.

I agree with Beach Bum that it depends on the party you want to have or are having and who is going to be there. For me though their are some staples of music that I always want to hear at a party if I have anything to say about it.

Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy
Reel Big Fish - Beer
AC/DC - Shook Me All Night Long or Dirty Deeds (going the extra mile is playing A long way to the top)
Snoop Dog - Don't Tell
Kool & the Gang - Jungle Boogie
Anthrax - I'm the Man
Sade - Smooth Operator
Montell Jordan - This is how we do it
Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe
Slayer - Reign in Blood
The Roots - You Got Me
Technotronic - Pump up the Jam
Guns N Roses - You Could Be Mine
Biz Markie - Just A friend
Beastie Boys - Anything off of Check ya Head or Ill Communication

Um but I love Slayer, and while granted it is a rarity I get to have it played at any party I attend, it is a song I like to hear at a party if I am able to do so.
