I need to get my grubby hands on some of those. I'd also like to get one of Al Franken's books. I know he has at least one.

I really enjoyed his books. You have to take any political book with a grain of salt, naturally, but it's a good read.

I find it funny that he's actually running for the Senate now after he wrote a book about five years ago that was about how bad of a politician he would be. It would be amusing if any of his opponents bring that up in the campaign. Although, in his defense, it was supposed to be a humorous fantasy.

I look at it this way.

A) I really like Al Franken as he was one of the best writers from SNL.
B) He's had a head in politics for years and years.
C) He's running in Minnesota, a state that voted in Jesse "The Body" Ventura, a man who I had no idea was into any politics at all.
D) Arnold Schwarzenegger is also a governor.
D) We've had an actor as president, Reagan.
E) We currently have a total dumbass as president... and he was voted back into a SECOND TERM.

In these conditions, I feel that Franken has a decent chance.

I just received a delivery from Amazon a few days ago. The 2 books that I plan to read are:

When Rabbit Howls by Truddi Chase (I did read it almost in its entirety once, then spilled a glass of Coke on it, and it got ruined... so I finally replaced it)

Sybil by Flora Rheta Schreiber (it was a recommended read and I was a few dollars short of a free delivery, so I thought why not?)

I also pre-ordered Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (but I won't get it until around July 21st)

Anyway...

I've been reading throughly enjoying the Star Wars: New Jedi Order books (fuck you guys, I like Star Wars.) It's sort of the Star Wars 'Civil War' equivalent in the sense that major events that can't be undone went down. Like the destruction of Ithor and the Yuuzhan Vong conquests of several other major planets (well, maybe not major, but Duro, Ord Mantell and others fell) Oh and they dropped a friggin' moon on Chewie! You can't take that back. It's a welcome change from the usual post ROTJ EU plots of "Oh no! The Imperial Remnant built another superweapon!"

Yeah. The Yuuzhan (and I know that's not spelled right) Vong thing was a welcome change. It seemed like they were running out of Death Star variants, and I did enjoy those books. The finale was pretty great. I also like how the Yuzzhan Vong are basically another version of the Zerg.

Shh! I'm only as far as Rebirth! But yeah, it is a really awesome idea (and fuck Star Trek, the only time their race that uses organic technology showed up was the series no one cared about!) The only thing that bugs me about the series is that a couple of the stories are eBooks (Ylesia and Recovery) Though apparently Recovery is included in the paperback of Star by Star (which is the only book I don't have of course...)

Trek is superior!!!!

Normally, I wouldn't say that, cuz new Trek has sucked for ten years....but Gary Sinise has been cast as McCoy in the next movie. Awesome.

Wait. McCoy? Dr. Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy? From TOS or is there some descendant character in one of the new crappy shows? If it is Bones, Gary Sinise would be perfect, well, almost as perfect as DeForest Kelley.

Yeah, it's a prequel, concentrating on Kirk & Spock, possibly in the Starfleet Academy years. Although, since it seems like they're casting the rest of the Enterprise crew, it might be about their earliest missions. It looks like Matt Damon will be Kirk, and Adrian Brody will be Spock : http://www.trektoday.com/news/270207_01.shtml

Although, I would still prefer James Marsters for Spock, but Brody will do.

Officially, it's still just rumors, but since the official announcement of the movie's release has come out, the timing of it all makes me less supicious.

I'm reading Alhazred by Donald Tyson right now and I urge any Lovecraft fans to read it as well. It is the mad arab's personal account of how he went from being a poet in the court of the king of Yemen to a scarred necromancer in service of Nyarlathotep. It's very well written and weaves bits and themes from other Lovecraftian tales perfectly into itself. There is mention of Yig, Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep (obviously), ghouls, Tsathoggua, the idea that there are secret chambers beneath the Sphinx, the idea of ressurecting long dead necromancers by using the essential salts of their bodies and lots of other stuff. Just read the damn book already.
