I don't read James Patterson and I can't think of Alex Cross without thinking of Morgan Freeman, but "Cross" sounds like a fairly interesting novel to check out. His wife is killed, Cross is out for revenge, the title of the book is named after him, what's not to like?

And despite the bad reviews for "Hannibal Rising", I know I'll force myself to read it soon enough.

Yeah, it's the prequel book, about young Hannibal.

I'm just going off Amazon (professional reviews haven't been too good either), and most of the reviews I skimmed sounded very questionable.

A few people who didn't like "Hannibal" thought this was worse, which is kinda what I'm afraid of. Though a lot of the people who didn't like it, didn't like it because of the lack of Dr. Lecter-ness and FBI content in it. I'm willing to forfeit both if his backstory is told engagingly enough. His backstory has already been revealed, but if it's told well, I know I'll enjoy it.
