#4: Mega Man 3

Released In: 1990
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom

A newly reformed Dr. Wily is helping Dr. Light build a giant peacekeeping robot named Gamma. They also send eight Robot Masters to various mining worlds to find energy crystals to power for Gamma. But as Gamma near completion, the the robots suddenly go berserk. Along with his new robot dog Rush, it's up to Mega Man to stop the Robot Masters, retrieve the crystals, and stop whoever sabotaged Dr. Light's robots. He'll also have to contend with the mysterious Break Man (Proto Man) as well as Doc Robots which take on the powers of the Robot Masters from Mega Man 2. As always, it turns out Dr. Wily is responsible for the rampaging robots, and he steals Gamma after its completion and subverts it to his own evil intentions. Once again, Mega Man must journey to Wily's castle and thwart his plans of conquest. Features Hard Man, Top Man, Snake Man, Gemini Man, Magnet Man, Shadow Man, Spark Man, and Needle Man.

Syd Lexia: Ever notice how Snake Man looks kinda like Serpentor?

Valdronius: Mega Man 3 introduced us to Rush, Mega Man’s robotic canine companion, and also to Proto Man, Mega Man’s mysterious older brother. This game also innovated Mega Man's slide ability. There were several cheats that were activated by using the second controller, such as a super-jump, slow-motion, zombification and the ability to freeze enemies. But the coolest thing about this game is that you have fight the "ghosts" of all the Robot Masters from Mega Man 2.

Rycona: My favorite out of all the Mega Man games for the NES... and to think I was still unaware of the possibility of charging your weapon.

greeneyedzeke: Part 3 of the Mega Man series holds a special place in my heart, namely because I spent hours upon hours of my pre-pubescent life trying to beat it. Oh, yeah, and because it had awesome music and, for the time, graphics. Capcom could make the NES do things that defied logic.

Dr. Jeebus: This was my #1 choice, and I feel really it was the pinnacle of the sidescrolling action game. Mega Man was already established at this point, but having eight new Robot Masters as well as the eight from Mega Man 2 was a nice twist. Oh yeah, and fighting all eight of the new ones AGAIN in rapid succession was really cool too. That part of Wily's castle was always my favorite part of the game, and it still is. This game is the only reason why I hooked up our old NES when we had a spare TV in the house.

Syd Lexia: While this is an absolutely amazing game, I am fairly certainly that Jeebus must have been SMOKING CRACK when he picked this as his top choice.
