Hey all you crazy old people. I'm bored. I feel like playing something single player. I need to know what game to play, so I leave it in your hands. Your options are:

Half Life 2: Got the Orange Box mostly for Portal and TF2, and I only played a bit of HL2.

No More Heroes: Got to around the 5th bad guy and then got distracted with and Xbox 360.

Fallout 3: I love this game, but it got so overwhelming I had to take a bit of a break.

Burnout 3: Takedown: I never got around to going through campaign mode, so that's always there.

Assassin's Creed: I could never really get into AC, but gliding across rooftops is fun nonetheless.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band: I never got very good at these games, the orange fret needs conquering.

Resident Evil 4: I've beaten this 6 times and it never gets old.

Other: Please specify.

No question at all, if you haven't beaten Half Life 2, then it deserves your attention.

Half Life 2, and all of the episodes, as they are basically just the perfect game.

Fallout when you get the itch to just explore.

Assassin's Creed when you want to be angry.

Here's an "other" to consider if you can get it. I just played through Call of Juarez that came out in 2007 (the sequel just came out this week) and it was a pretty good Western themed FPS that was really fun to play through. There are some annoying stealth and platforming parts, but all in all is a game I'd definitely recommend, especially if you enjoy the Western genre and rag doll physics.

No more Heroes. It seems like a good game to play.

Portal is love...

Okay question for y'all. I'm embarrassed to say I too have never played Half-Life 2, or the original. HL 2 sounds a lot more interesting than HL 1, though...can I just right into the sequel, or should I buy the first and play through it? How much enjoyment would be lost if I went right to 2?

Also, can anyone give me some insight into whether the DLC is worth the cost (I'm considering buying the "complete" pack from Steam.) Does any of it actually advance the story, or is it just like Portal's extra challenge maps?

I never played 1 either, but the story for 2 made sense and was compelling, I'd say it would be ok to jump right in to 2. Also do it NOW you're missing out on a sweet game.

Well, episode 1 & 2 continue the main story of HL2, they are not add on so much as many sequels. Just get the Orange Box. For the price you get HL2, EP1, EP2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. (Unless you already have most of these)

I can say that the end of Episode 2 will make you shit yourself at the potential it gives episode 3.

If you can, I'd recommend trying out HL1. It's held up very well over the years. But if you don't want to, there's very little plot relevant to the series in HL1, but it's at least helpful to know what happened via wikipedia or an LP or something.

And as far as the episodes go, they're each like mini-sequels, progressing the story, improving character interaction, and upping the ante in terms of gameplay and setpieces.

I'm gonna buy HL2 along with all the packs right this very second, thanks for the info guys!

I'll be sure to check out HL1 at some point too, probably on PS2. HL2 is far more interesting to me in terms of setting and theme, though, so off I go to play. See y'all tomorrow Wink .

EDIT: Ah, fuck it. HL1 was only ten bucks, I picked it up too. I knew Freeman was a scientist, I had no idea he was a theoretical physicist and a doctor of philosophy! Any game with a physicist hero is awesome with me, I can't wait! So if I disappear randomly for the next week or three, you know where I am. Very Happy

What was funny at the time of HL1 was the fact that up to that point, HL1 was a massive innovator in terms of FPS gameplay and story-telling, but it still told the tired story of a portal experiment gone wrong, which was the over-done FPS theme of the day back then, thanks to every game wanting to copy Doom and Quake.

I recently read something that said HL2 Episodes 1-3 should actually be collectively considered Half-Life 3 as Valve intended the trilogy to act as a "new" Half-Life to avoid making gamers wait 6+ years for a regular sequel.

I say Rock Band and Guitar Hero (the first two GH games are incredible, the third is pretty good, "Rocks the 80's" is okay, but I am simply disappointed with Activision's more recent effort on the franchise. This is why I prefer Rock Band nowadays.). If you have difficulty playing it on expert, then I recommend trying to get better because it's a VERY enjoyable experience when you realize you've gotten better at playing your favorite songs on the game. When I first played GH, I couldn't even beat "I Wanna Be Sedated" on easy! Now I've managed to 5 stars on songs like "One" in GH3 and "Painkiller" in Rock Band 2 with ease.

Just don't take it too seriously because after all it IS a plastic guitar-shaped controller, not the real instrument. Just try to have fun while "playing" your favorite rock songs. I know I have! Very Happy

I won't accept a new version number without a new engine. If they use the HL2 engine than it is just an addon/expansion.
