I am very excited about what this means. I think we are in for some better quality games. The biggest problem with id has been a lack of story in their games. The biggest problem with Bethesda games is a large number of unfixed bugs after initial releases.

Put the two games together and add John Carmack, only good things will come!

More story in a game does not always equal quality. That said, I do agree that this could be a great thing, as I got pretty bored with id software games after Quake 2. I'd still rather play that than Doom 3.

What I'm hoping for is a classic Doom style game, NOT a remake. I can only imagine roaming the countryside Morrowind style holding my trusty BFG9000 *slobber*.

What I want is a game based on DOOM 1's story, but with a playfield like Oblivion/Fallout 3. Let me go explore, but make it chock full of enemies to have it still feel like the deathfest that DOOM should be. Also, make all of the graphics look like original DOOM too. A 16-square mile world of nothing but chunky textures, I would seriously love it bigtime.

I still make DOOM 1 and 2 WADS all the time, as well as Duke Nukem 3D levels. There is still a huge community of people who do the same.

Anyways, I think this merger that GP is talking about can only be a good thing. I want to bitch about it, as a lot of similar mergers in the past have flopped, but I have confidence that this will be nothing short of fantastic.

Both of these games care way too much about their products. They are both developers not publishers and by becoming bigger they can focus on that.

This is why EA / Activision games always get ripped apart. They force deadlines with no regard for the developers actual progress.
